I did ... these are all from our summer storms leading into Christmas in December (08).

Feel free to show us your efforts

(I know it's not the Critiques forum but I'm not worried if anyone feels the need ... go right ahead)

Great shots!

Perhaps it might be an idea to find an image host that allows images in posts, because it's far less immediate expecting people to have to go hunting to see your pics...

Yeh it would seem that Picasa web is visible by some and not others.

I'll start moving all my images to Flickr

Later today I'll go move all other images I've posted around this forum to Flickr as well.

Not as good as yours but this is an old one taken in Alice Springs, Northern Territory Aus in Dec 2006.

Actually I like it dmagick. I'm yet to get a shot with lightning filling the sky like that. All mine are like the ones I posted ... strikes to the ground.

Thanks ;) I was pretty lucky to get a shot like this. It was definitely the best one I got that night. Luckily the rain stayed away and we just had a lightning show.

I agree, not as good as the original posts in the thread, but I did get a doozy. Our storms here are not that spectacular. A few lighting strikes here and there but never much more.

dmajick & jj - those are both great captures!!
love the lightning crawling across the sky in dmajicks & dig the lighting effect on those buildings in jj's...

The old barn makes a good point of interest in the photo. If you ever get a nice clear shot like that definitely show us!

Over here we get some vicious storms but not so much of that lightning crawling across the sky. We get loads of the vertical strikes though.

:mad::mad::mad: Ok, So I had some really nice shots of the barn lit up without any lighting taken in between lightning strikes. Sky was all weird looking, but, I happened to lose the images at some point. I probably deleted them while cleaning up my hard drives. Oh well. Maybe Ill have try and get a few more this spring! Sounds like a good excuse to continue storm chasing to me!

Bugger. But on the bright side ... you have a photo to add to your 'Target Photos' list ;)

My next targeted photo for lightning storms is to get one with a power line tower in it. We have one about 500m away and it has an Osprey nest on it. Next decent storm I'm there!

What do you mean not spectacular? Looks pretty good to me :)

Thanks guys. It is a nice shot, I agree. It is a shot most photographers will find themselves struggling to get. However, there is just something about it that has always bothered me, the lightning bolt on the right side of the image. For a brief second it splits off the screen. There was nothing I could do about it. I have rerouted it so it was back onto the screen, but it just did not feel right. There are ethics in photography and that crossed the line for me. It is really no big deal but Im constantly criticizing myself to get the better image from the press of the shutter. Anyways, that is the reason I have had problems with the image. No big deal I know, but just thought I would share my reasoning for it.

Anyways, I know this image is not the storm itself, but I was chasing it. I tried getting out there in time but it was an hour drive for me and it was just out of my reach. It went through the marina where we keep our boat and camper for the summer. Luckily for us it was out of season and our stuff was not out there. Unfortunately for a several others, this was not the case. It was pretty good one too, but was out in the country. Ripped up a few old barns and tore the roof off a hotel, signs, and this.....

Thanks Bambi. Yep ... standing out there waiting for a storm to come through can be quite an experience!

One evening I was huddled under a shelter with my daughter and even though we were almost hugging to stay out of the wind and rain we couldn't hear each other over the amazing noise the wind was making.

Awesome shots MA! Reminds me that I need to keep an eye on the weather forecasts better next summer because lightning/storms is on my photography to-do list for sure! It would be both challenging and exciting.
