Hi gang, it's been a while. I happen to have a day off in Whitehorse so that meant heading to the Yukon Wildlife Preserve to visit the lynx and other animals. I was excited to hear the lynx had kittens. There were two that were about two months old. They are so cute. On a side note they are doing an experiment by keeping the male in the same enclosure. In the wild the father doesn't help raise the young. They can also kill the young as they some times view them as competition. So far so good. Apparently the mother has been seen giving dad a good whack in the head if he isn't playing nice with the kids.

The enclosures are fairly big and the lynx like to hide. There were stretches of a couple of hours without seeing them. I guess that is where cat nap came from. I spent most of the day with them and these are some of the images I captured.

Shooting through a chain link fence isn't that great but it's always nice to see my favorite animal up close and personal. Something that is hard to do when shooting them in the wild. Thanks for looking!

On a different photography topic, my brother and I uploaded a new time lapse video on YouTube. We shoot these with our still photography gear. http://youtu.be/suWsd372pQE

On a different photography topic, my brother and I uploaded a new time lapse video on YouTube. We shoot these with our still photography gear. "Go Beyond" 4K Time Lapse - YouTube (http://youtu.be/suWsd372pQE)

I missed this first time around. I agree with MBrager, it is really mesmerising. I was particularly taken the with time lapse+long exposure for the star trails. Very creative & effective

Thanks for the feedback! I'm sure I'll visit these cats through the winter to get more photos. And thanks for checking out the video link! We captured most of the scenes while on photo trips over the last 4 years. Cool places to see and photograph for sure. Thanks again!

Excellant work, Dan. Hard to tell any difference in your Lynx and what we call around here a Bob Cat. We rarely see them, but can hear them cry some nights.

Oh, and the video is awesome.

Thank you Barefoot! The big difference between lynx and bobcats are the tails and the ears. Lynx have a short tail and dark hair on the top of the ears. I'll post a few more pictures of the lynx. I don't have any bobcat photos.

I came back to see the video ... just plain awesome. Very professional. How you did those star trails sequences I can't imagine!

Thanks for coming back:) I can't take credit for that as my brother did the editing on those. We shot each scenes with a 30 second exposure (so there were small star trail in each image). In Photoshop he opened the first and second image and merged them, saved it, then merged it with the third image, saved it and so on. Since there are 30 still images a second for video, each 10 second scene has 300 images. It took him a while but he managed build the sequence one frame at a time. Fun stuff!

Whitehorse is a cool place, well, very cool in a few months:) Did you get a chance to visit the Wildlife Preserve Marko? Or head up to Tombstone Park near Dawson City for the fall colours? It should be popping right now.

LOL, he had nothing better to do while he works nights. It did take him like 3 month to edit the video together. It's good for him as it keeps him out of trouble. I'm glad my brother doesn't read this forum or he would kill me:)

bobcats and lynx are really cool wild cats. I think I like lynx 62 the best but the entire series is great
