Hi members,

I feel like a complete bonehead...but what is the name of this flower/plant? Also feel free to critique the image.

Thx!

Looks like this reed grass someone is trying to sell pictures of for $35.

Thanks Realist. I've taken pictures of those and like Marko had no idea what they are called.

I didn't know what it was called but I'm lovin' the image... the focus is excellent and the separation from the background is very nice and the light is just lovely.

Wonderful photograph. Really nice composition at the bottom of the frame where the two stalks cross one another.

Great shot, Marko. Love the composition, exposure and overall hues. Just wondering if the background vertical lines and hard-edged diagonal shadow near the bottom should be smeared/blurred a bit? - I find them a bit distracting, but that's just me. Again, really nice image.

I like the vertical lines in the background. Thoroughly separated from the subject, so it stands out, and at the same time it feels like the lines and otherwise softness echo the lines and softness of the grass. (And I'm making no sense at all, even to me!)

Thanks for the comments! Background blur is the result of the 50mm at 1.8
Doug - I actually did smear a bit. might go a bit further - thx!

I feel like I could reach out and touch this. I do agree about smoothing out the vertical lines but it's a matter of personal taste.

Lovely tones and softness. Vertical lines don't bother me at all

This is similar to a grass in NZ called Toi Toi (pron. toy toy) that we used to play with as kids.

The subject itself looks very nice with that light, but the background looks unnatural to my eye.
