I entered a picture in the Capture Oakville Contest. I'm not one of the winners but I'm still pretty happy. There were almost 400 total entries in 6 categories. They chose about 80 pictures to go on display on the walls in the Oakville Town Hall for 8 weeks. I made the wall with my "The Letter Graveyard" in the Fine Arts category.

That still means you did a great job! Really like how the shadows give the letters a crisp outline.

Congratulations. It is an excellent photograph. Is there a website with the other winners posted, so we can see what you gave up your copyrights for?

Thanks Realist and Mike

I knew there would be confusion with my posts. There are two competitions. This one (Capture Oakville) is a serious one open to the publc and has rules that make sense (photographers keep the ownership and copyright to their images). The problem one is at work where the contest is for employees only and to make money for the united way. That one we had to give up our ownership rights and my two entries in that were not nearly this good.

Here is a link to Capture Oakville. It doesn't have this years winners yet, but you can see pictures from previous years winners.

And rightly so; this is a very nice image, sharp, well composed, and with wonderful textures ... i like it.

Very nicely executed Asnow. The texture, and shadows really add depth to this. A big congrat's also for the placing in the contest.

Thanks everyone. There have been times this year that I've gotten a little down and my photography hasn't improved very much. Perhaps this will give me the kick in the butt to get out and make better images.

I feel ya, it's pretty disappointing when your photos don't turn out how you wanted. Photography sure is a difficult hobby, and even the masters have something to learn. Doing the photos I do best always give me a good boost, hopefully you'll be inspired for a while.
