Needs Identifying.

I believe it is an Eastern Screech Owl. I took this in the back yard late summer early fall thinking it was a bee nest until it moved. Then it was, run and grab the camera! I used an 80-200 lens with the flash. I was able to get within 2 yards of it. It did not move. It also never set its right leg down, which makes me think it was injured, and the reason it did not move and chose to be my model. Anyways, I live in Toledo, OH, west side of Lake Erie for those who have a knowledge of owls. There are other pictures of it if more would help. I would appreciate it. Thanks again. Cheers!

Nice catch. I'm yet to find an owl ... might help if I actually go out at night I suppose! No idea what owl though of course, being that I live about 18 hrs in the future and on a different continent :)

by the looks of the picture you took & the ones on the site, im guess its one of these three - the whiskered screech owl, the spotted owl, or the northern saw-whet owl... but thats just a guess. im definitely not an owl expert!

Looks like a screech owl to me. But the ear tuffs are down, maybe he or
she is ticked off lol.

Yeah, it definitly looks like a screech owl to me as well. I kind of figured that, but what strikes me as weird is it looks more like a whiskered screech owl than an eastern screech owl, but the whiskered screech owl is not supposed to reside in this region. I dont know, what do you guys think? More of an Eastern Screech Owl or a Whiskered Screech Owl
