Thanks, HBG. Never imagined I'd be using a wide angle for close ups, but I found a fabulous old AIS 28mm 2.8 (http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/28f28ais.htm) on craigslist. It's everything I heard it would be. Close focus is just remarkable.
