Hello. It's been a while since I've posted here. I got this portrait this past weekend of artist Lowell Davis. He's pretty well know around this area but not well know all around the US but his art is sold nationally. I live about 25 minutes from his 1930s' town he created called Red Oak 2, where he also lives. It's an awesome place for photo sessions. I visited there with a friend to do some shots of her 17 year old daughter and was privileged to meet up with Mr Davis himself. I asked him if he would allow me to take his photo and he very kindly obliged. I was kind of nervous not wanting to impose an awful lot on him so I quickly composed and took one shot and hoped for the best.

Thank you for viewing.

An excellent portrait Lorey. Great "in-character" look and tones throughout. Did you send him a copy? I am a bit curious about your equipment set-up. The shadow lines from the flash look too small to come from the usual flash, to me anyway, unless you were quite far away. Also, what was your PP routine? Again, nice one.

Thank you Andrew for taking a look and the comments. I had a flash mounted on the camera's hot shoe with a fairly small soft box diffuser and probably only about 6-8 feet away. As far as PP I used Topaz Black and White Effects PS plugin. In that I can adjust the adaptive exposure and details to get the look I want and set the transparency filter to 100%, which is quite desaturated in color. Then I put it in PS CS6 and add vibrance and saturation back into it.

Beautifully executed Lorey. Love the tones in this, and your amazing pp skills really show here with the fine details that really make a portrait a work of art such as this. You can really see the character behind the man in this. VERY well done.

Guaranteed he would be proud to have a copy of this for himself.
