Hi members!

Anyone have suggestions for the regular and level 2 assignments?

(The best suggestions are the ones that everyone can join in on)

Thx! Marko

Always had this idea in my head, but don't know if it has ever been done, or will be welcomed. I call it the 180. You take an interesting/artistic shot, then turn exactly 180 so you are facing exact opposite your initial shot, and shoot again. This will really make you work, and think about comp., and the subject(s) at hand, that you are shooting.

Wow, it's February already! Time goes by way too fast.

HBG's suggestion is interesting. You could create a diptych from the shots. Sounds like an interesting level 2 to me.

As for level 1, we could get predictable and do "love", "heart", "red" as a Valentine's theme.

Another option is "signs". There are signs everywhere... show us your most creative view of a sign.

Food? Have we ever done a food challenge?

I like signs - for level one.

For level 2, I like 'heart' or Food photograph.
(sorry HBG - i think what you are proposing is interesting, but can only work with ultra specific scenes and genres of photography (usually there are distractions all around us and we choose our angles very specifically based on the direction of the light) - but if the majority supports it it will indeed become the theme of the month :) )

Marko...I am with you on this one! HBG's idea is a good one, but might get a bit lost in translation....signs and food....works for me!

Justin

Ok members - suggestion posts merged and the regular assignment topic is Signs.
Members should post their assignment pics in this very thread.
The level 2 assignment is here (http://www.photography.ca/Forums/level-2-photography-assignments/19801-february-2013-food.html). Thx! Marko

Nice one, AT. Do they have a lot of flamingos in that neighbourhood? :P

I found this one the other day. I thought it was kind of harsh for the dearly departed...

Ok, well I figure I'll get in here too.
Here is my offering for signs. I took this today thanks to seeing this thread and figured I'd see what I could find. I added a bit of pizzazz to it for practice.

Not really...when you stop to consider the fact that people are just dying to get in there.

Nice variety so far.

AT - that is pretty funny
Iggy - That is a good reminder for all of us to lead a just and honorable life :D
John - what a great find with the ice hanging off like that - and I like the processing

One of my obsessions, is the Calgary Tower. I like capturing it in ways that do not say this is a photo of the Calgary tower. :)

I am liking the whole assignment idea in general. You guys are forcing me to look for interesting things to shoot.
Having specific goals and things to look for, gets me focused. If I'm not focused I become prone to aimless wandering and I take pics like my Avatar :headslap:

Jay Maisel says NEVER go out with a preconceived idea of what you want to shoot, but in this case I think it is a great thing :)

Lots of good variety here guys. I will try to get some signs this week.

I find the same thing John. They also encourage me to do things outside my comfort zone or attempt things I hadn't before (e.g. last months assignment light painting).

The assignments get a big tick from me.

That's funny. I just joined the forum, but last month when you guys were doing that I was trying it for the first time too. Was light painting my Harley.
Didn't do great, but was ok for first time.

lol - I'm surprised there's no contract to sign or button to click saying you accept all the rules before entering the beach.

I've been trying to find an interesting sign all month. Haven't had much luck. The best I came up with was this one at my sister's cottage.

Wow, a lot of participation in this assignment with so many variations of signage in our world. Really likin' all the submissions, and in some ways shows the character of each individuals surroundings.
We went out for a Sunday drive and this is what we came across.(no seriousness around these parts)

This one on the end of someones cottage lane.

This one was on a dead-end road where it ended at the edge of a river.

Full disclosure, I shouldn't post this because I took it a few years ago on the Inca Trail in Peru. I just thought I'd share it for amusement. This 'Shopping Centre' is about a days walk into the trail. Kind of amusing thinking about desperately whipping out your credit card for a Gatorade! Another 3 days later I would've paid whatever it cost :)

That's a cool window and sign Nic. Love the hand painted portion. I might crop the bit at the top right as I find it a bit distracting and may need straightening a bit. Other than that it is a great picture.
