Nice one AT. I like the informal circular arrangement of the girls (pity one has her back to us). Cool sky too. You have handled the exposure of their faces well given the harsher light

It looks like you were crouching for this shot. Seeing as you are practicing, and if you havent already, may I suggest getting down even lower, just to see what it would look like looking up at them (particular with such a nice sky). Just as an experiment.

I don't know what your widest angle lens would be, but I like to put the camera on a mono pod with my 10-24mm at races and hold everything as high above the cars as I can stretch. That sometimes looks pretty cool, too. I can't remember his name, but there's some cat that shoots sports superstars outdoors in a way that makes a broad daylight shot appear to have been made at dusk or even later at night. His stuff really rocks, too.

I think to add to what Runmonty and Barefoot has said. You may want to try non traditional angles. Instead of taking the picture at eye level, maybe try up high or down low. Also it is important to capture emotion.
If you are going to shoot a lot of soccer this year you may want to check out the podcast Big Lens Fast Shutter (http://biglensfastshutter.com). These are two two professional sports photographers and one of them shoots a lot of soccer (football) assignments. I think you may pick up some useful tips. I plan on trying some sports stuff this year myself (maybe hockey and car ice racing in the next few weeks and perhaps some soccer, baseball in the summer... stayed tuned) and I think I have already picked up some helpful tips after listening to a few podcasts.

I like the shot the way it is. Only thing I would change is take some of the sky out. Though it is interesting, the main focus should be on the kids, so from that point of view I find the sky distracting. I might also crop the image tighter on the right side. As far as playing with angles and point of view.... that is up to the artists, I suppose. Shooting a sports event is more of a documentation than an artistic expression, though one does not exclude the other.

I like the bright colors, nice light, and the long dark shadows here.
