Sunset at Wharf No 5

Berth No.5, North Wharf, Melbourne, consists of a shipping berth, a concrete and timber wharf apron, a steel framed cargo shed and an electric travelling crane. The area has been a wharf since 1855 dealing mainly with domestic cargo. It dates from the immediate post war era but there appears to be earlier bluestone paving under later bitumen. The 1948 crane was locally designed and built by Malcolm Moore Limited. The berth was made redundant by the closure of the river in 1975.

Really like this picture. The colour of the light the way it shines on the buildings and the reflection of the buildings in the water. The Blue sky on the left with the cloud on the right works for me too. Interesting tones. Did you use HDR in this shot? The history is good too. Nice to see they don't just tear down and build condos like they do here.

I understand it is due to be developed soon, but I think they are not tearing it down and will probably try to retain the character. The South Wharf (where I am taking this shot from) has been tastefully developed into cafes etc, but they have been integrated into the heritage buidings and have maintained some old points of interest behind glass. (The condos have been built immediately behind.)

I really like the light in this one. Very well done HDR. It doesn't have that HDR look to it at all in my opinion.

Thanks asnow. I am enjoying using HDR at the moment but I find I mostly still try to make it realistic. Although I dont mind the HDR look, I rarely use the "grungier" settings unless going for a particular look. (having said that stay tuned for some graffiti shots I took recently where the processing may be more extreme)

Interesting subject with lots of detail. Nice 3 dimensional effect with the clouds and the moon. I like the composition a lot, and it seems suitable for the HDR processing you used. The light and dark in the photo are evened out but not drastically. It will have historical value in 10 years or so.

Really like this one RM. The colours are so vibrant with amazing detail in shadows, and light. Not a big fan of heavy handed hdr, but love this effect.

A perfect postcard. Beautifully done. Amazing light, and the inclusion of the clouds and moon really adds a lot to the shot. If an organisation ever needs to fight to keep the structure, this is the image they need to show people.
