Hi members,

Anyone have assignment ideas for this month?

I'll just throw out 'opposites' for the level 2 assignment - any other suggestions?

Since I just bought my new lens, how about focal length of 200 or more

I saw a great video the other day on Digital Rev TV about "freelensing." You take your lens off the body and hold it up to is to get a tilt-shift like image. Here's the video below.

"Stuck at Home" Photo Idea #3: How to Shoot Freelensing Photos - YouTube

What about "details". By this I mean rather than take a shot of a car shoot the headlight - a doorknob in lieu of a door etc. If you wanted it could be a macro shot, but need not be.

I like the idea of details and opposites.

I am not philosopically opposed to the 200 mm idea but i dont have that length of lens :)

I like details for the regular assignment and opposites for level 2 - merging posts now.
Thx!

Ok members suggestion posts merged and the theme this month is 'Details'.
I quite like Runmonty's explanation "....By this I mean rather than take a shot of a car, shoot the headlight - a doorknob in lieu of a door etc. If you wanted it could be a macro shot, but need not be."

Ok then who will post first in this very thread?

Level 2 assignment this month is here (http://www.photography.ca/Forums/level-2-photography-assignments/20205-may-2013-opposites.html).

I will go first, taken today, "Gatorscapes". It's not your normal view of an alligator.

I've already posted it in animals section

Well this is not entirely the effect I wanted, but I was able to salvage the photo with Photoshop.

Not sure about the freelensing idea. I see a lot of dust in the camera afterwards lol.

Aliens, or a detail of what?

Aliens, or a detail of what?

After 5 minutes of staring at it looks like bird feet. Judging from the texture I would say it's some sort of animal part.

Fantastic start!
AT - I dig the selective focus and the mood.
Bambi - Nice choice of subject - dig the comp
Realist - very cool concept and well executed.
K.O.B. - That's whacked. Cool but whacked.

I guess it depends how big the object is whether it can be considered a detail? This is from a bigger than life art installation depicting Canada's Famous Five, a suffragette movement from the late 1920's:

A couple more from the same art installation:

A really nice set of submissions thus far - and lots of them.

The more 'accessible' a theme is, the more people will submit. All threads are better with more interaction.... I've been paying lots of attention to this fact (particularly in relation to how active the assignments are) over this past year.

RM - nice detail for sure
Jas - it's all relative right - so the cup is a detail in this case - works for me. The other captures show details in a more conventional way. Nice.

I like that extra detail image mbgrager.

Frieri - very cool! What is it?

For the first - I'm thinking you meant me?

For the second, looks like an informal bulletin board. Paint a piece of plywood, fasten it to a couple of poles, and let people staple their notices on it. The paper gets pulled off when the notice expires, but the staples get left behind.
