Evening,

I'm working on a dance photo shoot with multiple photographers and dancers.

We will be working in a dance studio with limited lighting. We will be working on jumping and movement. Would an off the camera flash be sufficient or would it be best to have stobes?

Advice greatly appreciated.

I think if you had a large speedlight or two you could do it, but strobes are always going to be more powerful. With speedlights you may have to bump up ISO where as strobes they're more powerful. I suppose it depends on what you have.

Hard to say for sure without knowing much about the space but speedlights can do some amazing work for being so compact and inexpensive. If you have access to strobes and know how to use them then you might want to use those.

I would consider, however, what you will have access to most of the time and work with that. That way, you'll learn more about the tools you will have in your "toolbox". So, for instance, if you have a speedlight or two and have to go through a big hassle to borrow strobes you might want to stick with the speedlights as it's what you'll work with a lot and it would be better to get more knowledgeable about what you can do with them.

Hi Nicole and welcome to the forum!

Curious, have you worked with either off camera flash or strobes before?
