View Full Version : trying night shots

A photo club I belong to went out on a night shoot. I took a few but this was the only one that was half decent. Determining focus is really hard at night! :wall-an:

I really like that one Bambi. I love night photography, it makes you slow down and really think through what you are doing.

Cool! I haven't done much night photography but I might do more this summer. This is a nice shot, Bambi.

Get out the fast lenses and it's easier to focus :)
This one looks soft to my eye (on the church) I'm afraid.

Ah...night photography is my favourite. couple tips for focusing at night. If you are in a populated area where there are street lights, pick one far away and get it into focus in manual. If you are in the middle of nowhere (which is where I like to be to get sky photos (stars, aurora, etc)), simply focus to infinity by rotating focus ring all the way clockwise (from the perspective of you being behind the camera) and then just back a tiny bit. Try this in the daytime to get a feel for how much you have to come back....
hope this helps....
Oh...I love the composition of your photo above.
