What is a good calibrator? I see Pantone Huey Pro is what comes up the most. I've been trying to snag one off eBay the last couple days. The last two went for $32 & $42 each (I was second highest bidder on both).

I use the Spyder and am happy with it. But the only time a calibrator is important is when you want to print your photos. You need the colour you are looking at on your monitor to be the same as when you go to print it. Other than that you will find that that eveyone's monitors are different. Go into Best Buy or whatever big box electronic store you have where you live and look at the T.V.'s and Computer Screens, everyone is a little different. Here is something interesting though, look at the ipads. The color across the board is pretty consistant. Lots of photographers and just your average Joes look at photos or show their photos on those devices. And yes Adobe is working on some sort of editing type program for use on ipad. A real editing program not a Instagram make the picture as ugly as I can then post it type program, either.
Here I go pushing the Grid again:

I also use a spyder. I use adorama pix website to print, and on there they have color profile downloads available for free. I have had no surprises using the spyder and adorama pix, everything is spot on every time.

I disagree with jas here. We are all photographers and we like our images to look good to others as well don't we?
IMO, the monitor should be calibrated whether you print or not. Your image will look better on more people's monitors when your own monitor is calibrated. Printing of course becomes way easier on a calibrated monitor and good printers can be had for cheap these days.
Spyder gets decent reviews.
