I recently visited Nova Scotia. The seascapes were like nothing I had seen before, and I had a lot of time on my hands so I experimented with long shutter speeds. After many attempts I came away with a few that worked. I welcome your comments or suggestions

Nice results but I love that first one. It feels very ethereal.

Superb set. Love them all. But if I was to chose, then #3.

Third and fourth for me, but they are all very well crafted. Tell us how?

These are really nice compositions. Third one is my favorite because of the view into the distance.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. It is difficult in daylight to get the shutterspeed down to 3, 4 or even 6 minutes. Picking a dark day helps but it is essential to use filters. I had on a polarizing filter and then added a 10 stop filter. You have to expose for the shot prior to putting on the filter because you can't see a thing once the filter is added. There are calculations to tell you if your normal exposure is 1/4 of a sec (ISO 100, Aperture as high as your lens can handle) then with a 10 stop filter it may come out to 4 minutes. Flip your camera into bulb mode and have a coffee and wait! Please email me if you want more info. I am happy to give away any secrets i have :)

I might also add that there is an abundance of apps for both iOS and android users that will make the calculations for you and serve as a timer at the same time. Thanks for the useful info, Missy.

barefoot is totally correct. There is an app for the iPhone (not sure about other devices) that is fantastic. It is called NDTimer.

I am with the others, I love them all but # 3 is pretty special, and the creamy water in the first is great as well.

I can't believe you can get 6 minutes during the day (I know do the math). You must have to use a filter from a welder's helmet.
By the way these pics are incredible,

The most I got was 5 minutes and that was using a big stopper (10 stop) a polarizer and a .9 ND! Plus it was dark and rainy most of the time, which helps!
