Well...the following set was not at ALL the purpose of my photo excursion last night, but thanks to a closed road that kept me from my initial goal, I was rewarded with this spectacular moonrise. What we have here is the rising of the Hunter moon (first full moon after the Harvest moon). There are several theories as to why the moon looks so large as it rises from the horizon - atmospheric effects, shape constancy, or just purely our minds and how they perceive and focus on close and distant objects (Ponzo illusion). Anyway, I'm babbling. This set covers a span of 8 minutes and you can clearly see the perceived change in the size of the moon.

3. Ironic that there are so many geese flying around in front of the Hunter moon.

4. and finally 8 minutes after the initial shot, the moon has made its way well into the sky and appears considerably smaller.

Beautiful work, Randitola. The change in only eight minutes is amazing. Luck is great to have in photography, if not for that closed road these might never have been created. Since they're so beautiful and unique, I might remove, obscure or alter all the man-made objects. Time consuming, but worth it for these. A pleasure to view. Rich

Looks cool with the clouds masking it like that.

hehe....Thanks MA. I've been actually thinking that it almost makes the moon look like Jupiter! Now wouldn't THAT be a sight to see? :)
Rich - Thanks for the comments. I was flip-flopping on whether to clean it up or not.....what the heck, why not give it a go.....

I don't mind the train cars. An urban location, and you can still find wonderful things to see. The geese against the moon in the one shot are cool.

I agree. I think it adds to the shot actually, and beautiful shots on all Randitola.
