Hello

this was my first attempt as street photography.( okay the street was closed that day for automobiles for celebrations). Can you guys actually see or feel the context/ atmosphere around? Since i was there i actually couldn't judge if the photos do the justice.

Also I understand they are fairly noisy and outta focus?! But I am little more concerned if they actually mean anything to unbiased eyes without too much effort.
.
D3100+kit lens(18-55)

Thank you!!

The first photo the people in the back are in what appears to be smoke and looks out of sorts. The people on my right are moving and it is a bit distracting and the fire which I imagine is the focus of the photo just is not working, it is overwhelmed by all of what is going on around it.

The second photo does not seem to have anywhere for your eye to focus on, my eye darts all over looking for something to be the main focus of the shot. It does have nice clarity and colour but it lacks a subject.

They are not bad but I would work on composition, subject and if you are going to shoot at night you need to watch out for movement blur. It may be because of the kit lens but you may be able to work around that. What were the camera settings for the first photo if I may inquire. You are on the right track I just think with some practice you will be where you want to be.

I really like these type of street scenes as part of festivals and celebration, and you have done well to capture the crowded activity. That is quite a fire in the 1st shot

I agree with Acadie Libres critique, but also think that with just a bit of dodging and burning, you could give these some more interest and direct the attention better.

For the first shot I would consider burning (no pun intended) the top left quarter of the shot and dodging the two men on the right.

In the second shot burn the brightly lit shoes and dodge the seated people in the bottom left corner. I might also drop a little off the top and right

Just a thought - hope it helps. Let me know If you would like me show you what I mean if I haven't explained it properly

Hi,

Thank you AcadieLibre & Runmonty for your excellent suggestions .It was very helpful. I've made some changes accordingly. Something about the photos:

Shot 1: It was kind of holy fire on dried coconuts and lotta oil. flowers etc are offered in fire(as 2 guys on right). There was a queue which is seen behind to a small temple(not seen). and the 2 men behind those big fans blowing away smoke in other direction away from queue( Towards me:yell:) Open to critiques.
1/60 sec; f/5.6; ISO 1600

Shot 2: Its a market road, again closed for that day. Seated people on left are 2 women, getting mehandi done(Kind of temp folk tattoo)
1/60 sec; f/5.0; ISO 1600
38.0 mm (in 35mm: 57.0 mm)
