You captured a gorgeous view. Does it look that good in color?

Thanks for the compliments. It was kind of a difficult shot. Sun is just off to the left. All the foreground trees are very dark green, but the sky is very bright with some blue patches. The mountains are grey and white in the distance. It's around noon and I was hiking with my daughter who is hungry and grouchy and wanting to get home, about an hour away. So I decide, to my regret, to handhold the camera and hurry the shot, not using my tripod. All Marko's lessons about exposure compensation are suddenly forgotten. The result was f/22 @ 1/125, exposed more for the sky. The upper half comes out nicely but the dark areas need about +60 in the shadow setting in Lightroom to be visible. Conversion seemed a better option for dealing with the noise. I'm still pleased with the result because enough detail is retained in the trees and the composition is interesting. Slowing down (and telling Laura to have a snack) and using my tripod would have been even better, since I could have taken multiple exposures. Win some, lose some.

Sounds like you made some excellent lemonade from the lemons you got handed.

I've just joined the forums and this is one of the first images I came across.
I like this a lot, particularly the trees. Lifting the shadow is a good move in black and white images. You're getting a kind of 'other-worldy' effect. Just gazing at this picture for a little while, you can almost hear the silence.
