A friend showed me this yesterday. It is a site that sells images and pays the artist. What you do is upload an image to the category it belongs in. Your image is than placed in duels with other images. Photographers vote on which of the two they like. Your image is scored based on number of duel wins and the score of the image you beat in a duel. The images are viewed by ranking order, so anyone going to the site to find image to buy, sees the best first (determined by members). You can remove your image anytime and you retain all rights. You can even load images and not offer them for sale, just judged.

One of my images has taken off after just one day, zooming to the top 10% of the category it is in. It's a nice image, but not one of my best (or favorite). This one from New Orleans, Cafe Du Monde

Something I forgot to add, as your score goes up, the images that you duel with get better as well. So a new image gets matched with new images. If your image starts getting ranked, the competition gets better.

My image above went to top 10% in its category, now it is down to top 15%, because of better images it is going against.

Like I said, members vote on the images.

What are y'alls names on there, so i can follow you?

****EDIT****

Nevermind, I found both of you, you were following me.

Funny thing Dale, I voted on your red dome image about 15 minutes ago (before I knew it was you).

LOL that's funny.

I found you on there because an image of yours caught my eye (blue-eyed girl in water). I only realized it was yours because of your avatar.

Its a little addictive.

You do know you need points to upload images, and you only get points by voting on duels (1 point per vote)?

There are indeed - some of the higher ranking shots are good. There are also some pretty crappy ones that come up in the voting though.

I am following both of you.

By the way - welcome to forum Dale

What I cannot figure out, when I searched the category of dogs, I don't see your white dog picture, but the puppy image shows further down the page.

I just searched and found it. It currently has a score of 628, but there were a few with a score of 627 ahead of it. Weird; maybe there's a delay of some sort.

I figured it out, you can search by day, two days, week, all, etc.

BTW, i just submitted two images to challenge your Elton John shot

A couple of years ago AT introduced me to this site.

I don't spend much time on it at all, but periodically I will have a look and submit an image every now and then. Sometimes I will enter their free competitions on a half-hearted basis. Sometimes the photo will finish in the top 5 or 5%.

I did this again a couple of weeks ago (but this time it was a sponsored contest) and then forgot about it.

Today I received an email saying I had placed 3rd in a competition with 6500 images. I won a Gary Fong diffuser. It isn't a big deal, but a nice unexpected surprise.

Now to see if they will ship it to Australia.

Thanks mate.

It is a older photo and I must admit I am embarrassed by the processing looking back on it now. The theme was "dramatic light".

I will also add that the winners are chosen by the members of the site via a multiple head to head voting system. I find that I often totally disagree with results, and they don't reflect my personal tastes. It often is the most colourful or boldest images or (dare I say) the most garish HDR that score the highest. From memory I think I may have entered another image that I much prefer that didn't even make the top 20%.

The image page is located here Waterscapes | Landscapes | Pixoto (http://www.pixoto.com/images-photography/landscapes/waterscapes/4648758029582336) and the contest winners are here Photo Contest: The Dramatic Light | Pixoto (http://www.pixoto.com/contests/the-dramatic-light)

The people at Gary Fong were excellent in following me up and shipping the diffuser. It arrived yesterday. I am now a happy owner of a LightsphereŽ Collapsible (http://www.garyfong.com/products/lightsphere-collapsible-speed-mount)

Not bad for an entry to a contest that had no cost and when I had no expectations at all.
