Wow I have the honour of the first post to the new forum category

Get some adhesive velcro tape. Put a strip on the leg of your tripod, and the opposing strip on the back of your remote shutter release. By doing this you can attach the remote to the leg of the tripod and it wont have to hang and swing during long exposures or while using you hands for other things.

Good idea. I should do the same to my camera strap too, I find it a bigger culprit in the wind.

When I swap batteries, I take a picture of the one I just took out, to remind me to put it in the charger when I get home. If you have more than 2, you'll need a method to tell which one(s) need charging. Happens mine have different caps for the terminals, but a particular container or a rubber band around the middle could work, too.

And - photog's vest not in the budget? Or (in my case) haven't found one that will fit? Get a cheap fishing vest. Lots of pockets that zip or velcro shut. Mine's still too big (they didn't have any women's vests), but it more or less works, and it didn't cost much.
