I`m new to photography and would like to buy a good used camera but having trouble making a decision between two cameras, the Nikon d80 and Nikon d90. I found a nice used d80 for 150 and a nice used d90 for 300. I plan on buying a new Nikon next year but I would like to know if the d80 will suit my needs for now until I get a new one. Is it worth spending an extra 150 for the d90? I plan on taking mostly outdoor pictures, wildlife, scenery..etc...

I have 2 older lenses from A Nikon film camera and plan on using them for now. (Nikon AF Nikkor 70-210mm f4-5.6 D zoom lens, and a Nikon AF nikkor 35-70mm lens)

I have never owned either but Ken Rockwell tells it like it is, so here is his take :
Nikon D80 (http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d80.htm)
Nikon D90 (http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d90.htm)

Both are now discontinued of course but the overall stuff remains the same.

If you are new to photography, I'd likely buy the cheaper one.....but because it's only a 150 difference, I'd say splurge and go for the d90.

Most of the magic is in the glass (lenses) when it comes to photography....if you get into photography within a few years you will likely upgrade the camera but you'll know why to upgrade.

Hope that helps and welcome to the forum!

I ended up buying the d80 after considering the price and condition of the body itself. I just checked the d80's shutter count just under 28K. The d90 had 200K. Not sure this is very important but it seems like a good thing. Thanks for the help JAS_photo and Marko. Now I just have to figure out how to use it..lol

thanks.
