View Full Version : It's Spring time, you know what that means - Soccer Pics again (I am getting better)

I have always had a problem shooting my daughters playing soccer, so I decided to open the aperture wide open and bump the ISO, so the speed would get on up there (some of these were 1/5000 speed). These images are a lot clearer than any soccer pics I have taken in two years. (granted, the overcast sky helped a ton)

(I know this is not a good image, but it is of my youngest daughter kicking her first goal in her 3 year career). I nearly missed her

This is my favorite image. Maddy (my oldest) plays like every game is World Cup.

This is probably the technically best image I grabbed (our friend's daughter tending goal)

Love the flying shoe lace! It adds to the intensity.

2 and 4 for me, but all excellent action captures. Very nicely stopped, and sharp detail.

Certainly these are an improvement on last years set. Much sharper than previous. Getting low like you have makes such a difference.

I know it is often very hard or near impossible to do with kids sports, but choosing a spot with a clean or uniform background will lift sports shots immensely. That is something I have been trying to work on too myself (without total success).

I think I mentioned it before but if you can check out Big Lens Fast Shutter (http://biglensfastshutter.com/) podcast. These guys are fairly opinionated and are brutal in their critique but give excellent advice IMO

Now in shot 3 if you just dropped the ISO ........................... (just kidding).

Nice work

As an aside my son has just switched from playing football (for 10 years) to basketball, so I have new sport to learn to shoot this year. (maybe a good excuse for a faster lens??)
