Often, as photographers we are told to not put key items dead center in a photo but there is a technique of symmetry that rebels against that rule. That central object might be placed on a third horizontally but they are always dead centre on the vertical lines. An interesting short video of the technique below.

Cool video. I must say that symmetry on the center line(s) is as eye pleasing as "rule of thirds" if done correctly and like you said, he uses the horizontal third lines in nearly every one of those scenes
