There was a restaurant on the pier of the hotel we stayed at in St Lucia. It was perched on rocks which were crawling with crabs. Most were quite drab but these two were snappy dressers. It was shot with my tripod leaning against the railing to extend the camera out over the railing. Any suggestions for improvement?

Thanks

With data like that you obviously did everything you could with the available light. A flash might have helped perhaps?

It kind of feels unbalanced with all the action on the left and emptiness on the right. It also feels like the action is going to move out of the frame, towards the upper left (even though we know crabs walk sideways). But I bet framing was hard with the camera over the railing!

I really don't mind the composition. It just hard to see the critters with the wet rock. MA may be on to something with the flash..although maybe that would have made the rocks shine even more..not to sure. Hmmmm...seafood. I'd love to have a good lobster right about now!!!

An interesting image, definitely would have benefited from some additonal light, but I think another run through the pixel room would help. A levels/curves adjustment to adjust the exposure and some tweaks to colour balance to reduce the overall blue and increase the other colours.

Thanks for the suggestions folks! I tried some artistic licence with the blue tone. Here it is again with your suggestions applied. That is as sharp as I can get the crabs though.

cheers

An obvious improvement though :)
