I took many shots of this waterfall and this one is my favorite. There's something off about it, though, and wondering someone else's19996 thoughts & how i may have captured it better. TIA!

Hi Angie and welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your time here. I think you are off on the right foot asking for advice. Although some critiques can sometimes be hard to hear, they are a great way to improve your photography. Unlike some other places on the interweb, Marko ensures that advice given here is instructive, constructive and well intentioned.

Before going to a couple of comments, it appears that the image was posted larger than the maximum size for this site, so it has been automatically resized and made it as little "soft". I would like to see a version that hasn't been resized. Many of us here use Flickr for posting on this site, which overcomes this issue (and also allows us to look a larger version which can be good). If you would like some guidance on posting from Flickr this I can post a link with instructions.

The scene you have shot here is indeed a lovely one, and I can see why it is a favourite.

1. In terms of capture, I am a little distracted by the spot of sky on the top right. I think you could have taken the top 1/8 off of this shot (and left as well), to better direct the eye to the waterfall.
2. The image seems to have a bit of a yellow colour cast to my eye.
3. It also seems a little over-saturated.
4. I would like to see a little more contrast. I suspect that may have been lost during processing.
5. The waterfall itself appears to be blown out (overexposed). this may have been during capture or during processing or a combination of both.
6. The image doesn't look all that sharp, but as mentioned earlier this may be due to resizing.

So, regardless of all those other comments, I'm going to add one more. Take a look at this photo in whatever editing tool you use and crop it to remove the left third. Leave a little bit of breathing room but get rid of most of the rock that is not waterfall.

Also, do you shoot in JPEG only mode or in RAW? Those highlights in this shot and the flower shot don't look too far gone. You might be able to bring them back in edit. I never used to be a big proponent of Lightroom as it's not cheap but you get what you pay for with that product. I've turned into a convert. It makes it very, very easy to edit images. Do you use Lightroom? Do you shoot RAW?
