A few friends have had babies and asked me to take some photos for them - looking for ways to improve. TIA

These are all nice shots and super cute. Just watch out for the cropping of the head (in the last one)

These are some great shots, #2 is my favorite, but it has a little too much vignette (IMO).

I like #4 a lot as well, not much to say about it.

As for the other ones, I don't care for the extreme angles they are taken at. New born babies do one thing, they lay down, so try to capture them like this. Shoot in landscape, capture all of the baby like you did in #2.

I love the smile in #5, but like #1, it is a floating head. Way too much black.

If you are not going to capture all of the baby, take in consideration of the crop. Look at #3 & #4. In #3, you have way too much of an angle, I feel like the baby is going to slide off the image to the right. plus the crop, it is mid-chest and you cut some hand off. #4 is pretty much the same image, but less angle and the crop is about at the waist (even though it is hidden behind the blanket, it implied), plus both hands are nicely captured.

And as Runmonty said, be careful of cropping off the top of the head in #5.

First and last shots are the winners for me.

Very cute set with good comps throughout. I agree with the head crop on shot 5, but the smile makes it for me.
2 and 5 are my faves here.
