Getting out of my norm, did a faux HDR of an image from New Orleans yesterday. The basic image was just flat and boring to me.

If it's flat and boring before the processing, then for me 'saving' it in processing is the wrong way to go.
Some of the poppy colours work and give parts of the image a cool look.... But post processing should not be the element that makes the image exciting, it should be content. Because of this, for me, it's a redo. The work is in the wait and being ready to capture interesting gestures/scenes (not the PP).

Stake your corner and wait....it's a fab location and the framing works well..

I have to agree with Marko. I'm not a fan of the processing.
