I had to get out to the lake today. When I got there I found this Heron standing out on a fallen tree out over the lake. Next to the herons tree was another fallen tree at lake level and I proceeded to slowly walk out on that tree while holding on to the higher tree the bird was sitting on. I got within 8 to ten feet of the Heron and slowly began to take pictures. After about 15-20 minutes, I turned around and there were about six Asian guys standing on the shore with big smiles and hands full of point and shoots waiting to take their turns. I'd never heard them arive and they seemed not to know one another. When I left, I stood and looked back as one by one they gingerly walked the tree to get their shots. The Heron took it all in stride....

Great shots. Once the summer rolls back around, it makes me want to get down to the river again and give them a shot. Thanks.

Love the expressions on his face. The story is funny too. Great photos as always. :)

Fascinating expressions! Love the 2nd shot.

Man, no Herons around here would let me get within about 30 metres (100 feet) ... they must be all female http://www.mtbdirt.com.au/home/smf/Smileys/classic/groan.gif
