I normally shy away from sunsets. Everyone has them. Almost too cliche for my likings but today just a little different. With some extremely strong weather producing several tornados today, I was bound and determined to intercept one and try and get a good picture. Ive been trying for two years now and the limitations of the city will not let me travel fast enough or far enough without the storm already getting away. Ive had close calls and today was fruitless as well. I usually just talk to friends on the phone giving me an idea of where the storm is and then I rely on my knowledge of the area to navigate from there. I tend to jump right into the storm and get into the worst of it. About 20min of driving 90mph in high winds and heavy rain, I cleared the front of the storm, but it shifted south before I could get a hold of radar update and the last of the sunlight. Making it out to Maumee Bay, I walked up the big hill to get a higher vantage point. Realizing I missed it and couldnt get there before the sun went down I waited a couple more minutes for the sunset instead. Having left so fast, my batteries were pretty much dead and only had a few pictures in them anyways.

I got pulled over on the way home from here today as well. That makes TWO in one day. I pulled to the side of the road to remove the batteries from my camera. Since the were pretty much dead, I figured I would warm them up on the dash of the car. Well when I turned started moving again another law enforcement officer pulled me over. Wanted to 'check me out' and make sure I wasnt intoxicated. She asked what I was doing, when I told where I was taking pictures at, she said quickly 'this isnt maumee bay'. After running through a number of explicit things in my head to say, I just told her I was on my way home. She let me go. The officers that talked to me asked me if I was out 'ghost hunting'. OOOOhh, that really got me going too. Something about the uniform they wear. Can't quite get it. Must have been a full moon out.

Shots 2 and 3 are quite lovely to my eye, with shot 2 being my fave of the 3.
I might lighten up the blacks a wee bit especially in shot 2. I also think shot 2 could benefit from a crop on the left side and the bottom - just a bit, maybe 1 inch.
Hope that helps

I'm with Marko here.
I wish I could shy away from sunsets but living in "Sunset Country" it's hard sometimes :p

Great cops you have you way there JJ. You'd think photography was illegal in Ohio!
Maybe there's APB out for a young, white male known to shoot photos of his own ass and they want to get that collar ;)
Hi JJ
I agree with Marco and would also add your water mark is too dominant. You may consider setting it on its own layer and reducing the opacity or just make it smaller.:twocents:
cheers

Nice picture, now if you try making HDR to em you could have more information on the ground and the image would look a bit less dark

thanks guys.
I would try HDR but unfortunately I was not planning on that so I do not have the right images. Guess these are going into the "almost/not quite" bin. haha
