I was thinking about this, this morning (because of the whole Facebook incident) and wondered what are some of yours? Consider this a venting and ranting thread ;)

I think one of my biggest pet peeves are people who create drama, turn small insignificant things into MOUNTAINS of problems! Ugh. That annoys me to no end! And Jr. High kids...I can't believe I was ever that age

So let's hear 'em!

- Vanity and arrogance - I dislike them both.

- Also parents that bring children (under 7) to any restaurant except the one that was created for them; the one I never go to; the one with those yellow arches that has served (and created) billions of crybabies.

-Someone in my bubble.
-Breathing in my ears.
-Dirty house.
-Smacking and chewing noises when one eats.

And lots more no doubt but just can't think of anything right now.

I don't have a McDonalds here so my kids get to go to on of the two restaurants . They learn very quickly what is right or wrong..longs they are told. Actually, never really did take them to McDonalds. They enjoyed sushi so that was our weekly treat when we lived in the city. I can totally see what you are saying though. There are some resaurants that shouldn't have kids. The ones where you pay an arm and leg and want to enjoy your meal!!!

Heh, I remember going out to eat used to be a big deal for me and my brothers (mostly because our parents wouldn't take us when they went). And when we did go, we had to be on our best behaviour or it'd be a smack on the head and no eating out for MONTHS! It used to be a privilege, not a right, with us :p

It used to be fine. But these days WAY WAY WAY too many parents have zero control over their rats, I mean kids.:p Time and time again my wife and I change tables in restaurants because parents have no control over their loud, unruly children. Because of this, as far as I am concerned, parents have no business bringing their kids to any restaurant except one like McDonalds that has a ball-pit and a slide.

I love kids by the way, but i don't want to hear them screaming when I'm trying to ply my wife with good food and alcohol in hopes of a fun evening;)

I bring my son out to eat, but like Gem said, it's a privilege that can quickly be taken away.

Along those lines, one of my pet peeves are parents who complain to their children's schools and petition to get a grade changed for their dumb and lazy kids. What kind of example does that teach?

I have not a single one, would involve me caring enough to let people control my mood by whatever it is they do that is annoying, so I just don't care enough to have any lol ....... now that being said my biggest pet peeve is ... lol

Snow and freezing temps that last too long ;)

I guess I would only mention two for me ...

1. Adolescents that don't respect their elders (generation to generation more than just a few years separating the ages)

2. People that put others down to make themselves look bigger or better.

Hmm. I was just thinking about it though. Maybe I shouldn't really say they are pet peeves as so much as I have a bit of OCD and I like to think of them as my quirky dislikes that can drive my husband nuts or myself if he wants to get at me :p

Hmmm..yup. You all now know something about me besides the fact I live in the cold and hate it :)

Photographers who call themselves pros and charge accordingly while they turn out amateurish photos. My photos are free that's how good I am

- crazy drivers racing through a tempo limit zone (mostly parents!!) in front of a school- or kindergarden-ground! :(

- people driving 30 km/h where 50 km/h is allowed – (damn 4-wheeled snails)

- the question: “Can I help you” – when it is obviously my work is already done :yuck:

Pet peeves:

Over the top political correctness- it's getting ridiculous.

Self-appointed forum cops who hand out tickets for typos, spelling errors, Caps-on typing, etc when they have no authority other than being a more frequent poster in that forum

Continual creation of laws and policies by governments and other official bodies that only serve to make life more complicated, more restricted and completely disregard the general population's ability to use common sense to dictate their actions in this illusion of democracy and freedom we live in. I am talking about everything from Helmet and seat belt laws to the Canadian gun registry fiasco and many many other things.

If the pet peeves were supposed to be more photography related then here's one:

SNOBS!

People who have respect and wisdom in a specific education or art, and then take that education and think it applies to everything else in the world. Then forcing their thoughts and opinions to the rest of the world as if they are the end all be all to whatever they might speak upon.
Others who have worked hard at becoming good at something, and then not helping someone else in the same field. I find that quite a bit in photography, and other creative fields. Its to see a beginner get snubbed just asking for a little help and direction. Not only does it kill someones motivation, but it does not help their self confidence. If I had my way, I would have punched every person who ever said that this was a waste of time because the final product was not 'perfect' in their eyes. Things take time and practice, if your not willing to help someone who is in the same exact position you were in once, then **** you and everything you stand for. There are too many people out there like this and its a crying shame.
People who drive around in bad weather conditions without a 4x4. Doesnt matter whether its a suburu, jeep, or AWD audi. Theres nothing like getting stuck at an intersection behind a truck trying to get through an intersection without weight in the bed. If you live in a climate where you know you are going to experience this, stay off the road unless you are prepared for it. 4x4s are made for a reason.
One more. People who always complain. Life is what you make of it. If things are constantly never in your favor, then talk to the homeless guy I met the other day. Things will never get better for you unless YOU decide to make that change. These are the same people that complain about not being able to find a job. Make your own, you are only down and out because of your own actions. With a little preperation, modesty, and hard work, society will not let you fail.

I lied, one more. Politics! I hate them. They are a joke. They prevent anything productive from happening. Conversations that are supposed to advance our societies, turn into the same converations we had in grade school. HE STARTED IT!!! There are always 'sides' to pick. We should always be able to get together and share ideas in a neutral manner instead of bickering at each other suggesting why your wrong and why Im right. If something needs to get fixed, dont criticize unless you offer a solution. Believe it or not, politicians are not in it for us. They are not altruistic. Its not what can you do for your country, but what can you do for me? This is a terrible political mentality that most(not all) policiticians around the world have. Its disgusting.

I kinda agree with you about negative people though JJ They are draining. I've been thinking about what my PP's are the last few days and that one is definitely up there.

People that don't maintain their sidewalks after it snows or ices up! I had a fall in January that cost me $1400 in dental work (slipped, landed on my face, broke a crown and my dental didn't cover it!!) due to a neighbour's unmaintained icy sidewalk. Downright dangerous!

Reading F8's post about unhelpful, disinterested sales staff is definitely another one of my huge irritants mostly because I am kind of at the mercy of these people if I need help !

Another one I have is younger able-bodied people who don't give up their seat to elderly or less mobile folks on public transit yet still sit in the areas specifically reserved for those people. That makes my blood boil!
Along the same lines...People who get on the bus with these enormous baby strollers and displace the same elderly/less mobile people so they can conveniently fold the seat up and park the stroller there!

Oh and one more now that I've just gotten back from walking my dog...people that don't pick up after their dogs...I think it's just simply lazy and irresponsible and no excuse for it!

There's my :twocents: on this topic. Now back to my happy place! :)

What I get from everyone's "rant" is the the same as my own pet peeve. People who don't show respect for others. Whether it's parents who can't control their child in a restaurant, road hogs, over zealous forum moderators, or ignorant public transit riders.

I just don't understand why we can't all just get along. I think this is the reason why I enjoy this forum so much. Everyone is very nice to each other even when they're poking fun (without being overly politically correct). Just plain old respect! Let's keep it up, people, it's good on ya!

On a more upbeat note, I would just like to say thanks to Marko. The reason this forum runs as smoothly and cooperatively as it does would not have happened without the right moderator. Thanks again Marko. You've done a good job here.

Tailgaters bother me to no end especially when I'm always ten klicks over the limit when I drive. Four or five feet off my bumper in a one tom machine is pure stupidity. I have sent a few of them into the ditch using my hard brake then accelerate routine. How would they like it if I followed them around at work with a loaded handgun six inches off the back of their skull. This is most decidedly a RANT!!!

People who name their kids STUPID things! We all know who they are. I just don't understand why they would name their kid something like "Dice" or something. I don't know why, but it makes me angry.

That one gets me too, when I'm already going over the posted speed limit. One time I had the satisfaction of seeing the offender pulled over by the police a ways up the road after he passed me with lots of hand gestures. That gets me even more, all the expressions of anger anytime you make the slightest error in judgement or even if you didn't and they're just in a rush. All the one-finger salutes, horn honking and gum flapping. People are wound up tighter than a spring these days.

But on the other side of the coin.... doesn't it seem that it's always when you're running late for something important that you get behind farmer joe going 30km/hr in a single lane 50 zone?

Okay I found this thread to rant a bit...

So yesterday I am going to pick up some take out sushi for dinner. I get to the door, open the door and am promptly greeted with a large splat noise and directly in front of me half way in and half way out the door lying face down is a toddler just barely over I would say a year old.

My heart proceeded to jump into my throat as I see the poor kid lying there and I think i got the scare of my life in recent memory anyhow. Dad saunters over casually and apologizes...I promptly yet gently tell him he should keep a better eye on his kid. Mum continues to just sit there on the bench and wait, completely unconcerned as to what has just happened....she didn't even more...I swear. So they both continue to let the kid play around in the same area where the kid face planted not 10 seconds ago. I am completely freaked out pay for my food...can barely remember paying for it (I don't know if I even picked up the right order until i got home...I'm glad they checked) as I was till wigged out about the incident that just happened. I look around and see a bottle of water spilled all over the floor and lo and behold the kid is holding a water bottle. I also see a massive stroller blocking the entry way to the restaurant. They couldn't even take the time to move it out of the way.

These people were absolutely friggin' clueless and I am still bothered by being greeted with a kid doing a face plant right in front of me. I wonder about parents sometimes and I can only imagine how they let the kid act in the restaurant...I'll just bet at one point he got to run around in between the tables and chairs while they ate their meal oblivious.
Anyhow I am posting this b/c it is still bothering me. To see that kid do that...I am just glad he wasn't hurt.
It freaked the bejebus outta me though. And I can't believe how out of it some parents are which is even more bothersome.
End rant.

So many Pet Peeves so little time …

Only restricting it to photography ..

1) Great picture, you must have a good camera.
2) What kind of camera do you have?
3) If I only had a new (fill in the blanks) boy I would be able to take great pictures.
4) Great images, you are lucky that you really live in a beautiful place.
5) It must be a better lens it cost more.
6) Beautiful image, looks just like a postcard.
7) I don't need to understand the camera I just set it on the green box.
8) Photography, after all it is not real art.
9) My camera is better than your camera.
10 My picture suck, but ... stop right there, if you have to explain it then it sucks, end of story.
11) My computer is better than your computer.
12) Putting text or frames around images ... that is graphics not photography
13) I will wait until I go on vacation thenI will take great pictures
14) Wow that is a calendar shot if I ever saw one.
15) and the list goes on

Ok so now you know I am opinionated but it gets worse

The other one that burns me....People who say "Like" every other word in a sentence.

I go to school with like a bunch of like 20 year olds and they are always like asking these like questions or making these like statements with like using the word like like for every other like word.

It like makes me like nuts listening to them like ya know?
Or perhaps I am just old and that is how people talk these days.....if that is the case than I feel a bit sad.
