Picked up a decent setup for a basic home studio.
Plan is for my son and I to learn portrait and pet photography.
Below is a set up video and my progress thus far.

Nice set up and I like the resulting shots.

I had a chuckle at the soundtrack to the video

Now that is stuck in my head for the day :wall-an:. My son is of an age that I always associate the song with the movie Madagascar. (not this version though)

I intend to shoot player profile shots for our Airsoft team and decided I'd mess around with some gels as well.
Lighting setup on this one is one soft box on a boom above camera right at 45deg about 3' 1/2 power
One at head level 4' 45 deg camera left 1/8 power
One waist hight camera left 4' 20deg 1/64 power. This one was just to light the rifle as it was coming out with no detail.
one light 1/2 power behind me with a red gel
Camera settings were 1/200 F8 ISO 100

Oh ya there is a smiley face in this photo.....can you find it?

Nice set up. I wish I had the space at home to set something like that up.

And yes, I do see the smiley face! o:

Thank you.
Luckily I have a decent size room in the basement where I can get back up to 20' from the subject but it's not really required. I have seen one about the size of a very small bedroom.

As for the smiley face, most that see it aren't smiling. lol

I would an extra light to separate background from subjects.

Nice portrait.
(adding to the previous comment) Since you have 20 feet, my advice is to leave more room between subject and background - minimum 5-6 feet.
That will allow you to get better separation between bkgd and subject. It also makes it way easier to just light the background.
