A few years ago I took the following photo as part of my http://www.photography.ca/Forums/general-photography/19778-windows-project.html

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7315/11145165126_b9123cb1b6_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/hYRTiq)window 48/52 (https://flic.kr/p/hYRTiq) by runmonty (https://www.flickr.com/photos/56001877@N04/), on Flickr

The mural depicts the members of the Hilltop Hoods, an Australian hip hop group. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilltop_Hoods They are huge in Australia and would be the biggest and most celebrated hip-hop artists in this country, and have been for some time.

Anyway, earlier this week I was approached through Flickr with a request to buy a high resolution version of this photo to go on the wall of the persons home. Obviously I was flattered that someone would want to put one of my photos on their wall, but was a little perplexed as to the choice of photo. I concluded they must be a big fan of the "Hoods".

Subsequent communication has revealed that the request is actually from the founding member of the group. I went from feeling flattered to somewhat excited and overwhelmed. I understand that the mural is the real reason for the interest, but I can also say it is quite humbling to potentially have one of your photos on the wall of Australian music legend.

Yes I remember thinking when you originally posted this it was quite a bad ass photo, with the dramatic painting, great sky and lighting. Very cool for sure. Are you going to be paid?

Thanks guys.

MB I was offered payment and then when I declined, I was offered some merchandise for my son who is a fan. I declined that as well, as my son already has plenty of hilltop hoods merch. They are good guys, and were really good to my son during a CD signing a few years ago, so this way I can give something (however small) back.

I really do not do this hobby for cash. Photography is my escape from the commercial world. If it was to be used for commercial purposes I may have a different perspective, or maybe perhaps if I was retired.

Besides - can you really place a financial value on true art?
