Great shots. The deer and the hummingbird images are my favorite. I think the deer edges it out for the win.

Hey, I noticed on Flickr that you recently had a booth at an expo or a market. It looked great. Just wondering, how did it go for you? Were you mainly selling prints or was it to gain clients for photo-shoots?

Hummingbird is my fave then the Grebe...but I dig the whole set.
In terms of critique - shot 2 Avocet looks like it could be rotated a few degrees counterclockwise if there's room.

I did have a booth.
It has a few purposes for me.
One is to prove or eat me words. I always tell wildlife photographers that selling wildlife images will almost never pay the bills.
Two is to get more exposure and get more clients.
Three is to gather knowledge to start my own artist market.

We will likely running the booth for Nov and Dec Sat and Sun.

Results so far.
It was the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend so next to no foot traffic.

First day was very difficult to get anyone in the booth. I had maybe a 0.5% engagement rate. This is what I was expecting so it wasn't much of a surprise that only a few people came through.
Many factors are attributed to this.
Holiday weekend where families tend not to go out and shop at large markets.
Not many people know I'm there yet and many people were surprised to see a photographer in this booth. I even had a couple of repeat customers (looking to get refunds on faulty products) of the previous booth owner.

Day two was better. Even though the market had less than half of the foot traffic on Sunday, I did significantly better turning a person casually walking by into a potential customer that came into the booth. This day I was around a 7-8% engagement.
My direct photo sales were still zero but I have five potential clients for family portraits, one gentleman wants me to photograph him and his sailboat and a couple of gentlemen want me to photograph their cars.

At the end of the weekend I would say I'm about where I thought I would be in direct sales but I am ahead of where I thoughtI would be with future jobs.

I still need more information about running a market but I'm 100% sure that an artists market will at least bring the type of shopper looking to appreciate if not buy some art where these general markets tend to have people just wandering and most are only there for entertainment.

Thanks for sharing that. You seem to have a clear strategy which is great, and I hope it becomes successful for you. I agree that an artist market would probably give better results for photos sales.

Please keep us informed how it goes.

I have seen someone selling calendars and prints at a market here in Adelaide and have been intrigued as to how successful they are. I have wondered if it is something I may consider when I have a little more time on my hands. I know it wouldn't be something that will make a fortune, but it could provide some pocket money.

Calendars you can do okay with. I sell calendars. The only down side is it's a 2 month sale, Nov and Dec. After that you really won't see many sales.
