Kerouac, Jack 3/12/22- 10/21/69

In his book Light My Fire: My Life with The Doors, Ray Manzarek wrote "I suppose if Jack Kerouac had never written “On the Road”, The Doors would never have existed."

I tried to create the chaos and dark humor displayed by Kerouac in his writing with this three shot multi exposure using the elements of (a) a shot through the window of the Soul Bar that captured his likeness on a poster, (b) a well used public marquee, and (c) a little bit of graffiti on a wall around the corner that sounds like something he might have written himself.

And then a few blocks down Broad Street I came across a flag hanging in the window of what used to be a ladies apparel shop that always had the most outrageous hats on display. I could never walk past without getting a few frames of the latest additions. I'm a little suspicious of the new proprietors. At any rate, I shot the flag and walked back to the Soul Bar to try it another way.

Is there any hope for either of the two?

I find these quite evocative, in that several details in each frame evoke a memory or thought or association to something in my life, past or present. Technically these are very well done and certainly interesting to look at. You could easily, I imagine, print a series of similar frames, each inspired by a quote or a personal revelation, or both, which together with the frames, could form an entire exhibition. Then you could sell it for a large sum, and either live happily ever after, or move on to create your next masterpiece.

Those are some very kind words and I'm happy that you enjoyed the photos. In the end, I'm sure that there will be no masterpieces. It's nothing more than having fun and enjoying my time off from work. Sort of like petting my dog and cat in that it relieves stress and lowers my blood pressure.

I really like both of these too Barefoot.

I think I prefer the first one. The portrait is a little more pronounced and the addition of the graffiti makes more of an obvious philosophical statement.

This certainly a worthy project and I agree with MB that this could become the basis for a larger body of work.
