Partially through good luck, and partially as a result of swift, strong and decisive control measures, we in Australia have been affected much less by Covid than the rest of the world. The state I live in has had no new cases for over a month now (and only a couple in past 2 months both from overseas that were identified during compulsory quarantine). As a result things are very quickly returning to normal.

With the resumption of all levels of sport, I have been asked to be the unofficial official photographer for a local hunt club. Although called a hunt club, they dont actually "hunt" foxes or other animals. They ride cross country over jumps etc whilst maintaining the traditional English hunting dress, traditions and protocols.

I will share some photos here periodically from the hunts. Last week was cold and wet, but I managed to get a few shots I was happy with.

This a horse portrait from the day

An excellent portrait. And a great opportunity for some interesting photography. Enjoy.

The first 4 shots are super. Fun play on the pan in the last shot.

For next time, since i know you like to play, maybe try flash with dragging the shutter while on a tripod -

Cheers!

That is a great idea. I do love to play :) My major concern is if the flash frightens the horses?? Will have to ask the riders. There is also little time to set up. You rush from one place to another following the hunt through paddocks in a 4x4 trying to keep up with the riders. It will become easier as I become more familiar with their runs however. The other thing I want to do is set up a remote camera with a very wide angle lens very close to the jumps.

Great work RM! From these samples it looks like you'll be busy.

Thanks Lorey.

It is through a mate who is involved with the club, and for me it is also a bit a social thing as well. I have made it clear that I wont make it a commitment, but will go out when and where it suits me. Also, as I want to be a bit creative and not only document jumps photos, I have told them that they will get what they get, and I may not capture every rider or every jump. In that way there is no pressure and I can treat it as a hobby not a job.

At this stage I am not charging them (although I may offer to sell some prints).

Truly wonderful images showing the raw power of these incredible animals. I'm sure any of the riders would be well pleased with your efforts
