Black and white film

Just a few shots from the first couple of films that I have processed.

One roll was years old and had traveled in my car through both winter and up to 47 degree summer days. The other roll was newer and the photos were taken on an old point and shoot film camera.

There are no masterpieces here, just snapping away to use up the film to try my hand at developing.

I find there's something interesting about each of these photos. I think that it's partially the uniqueness of film and black and white film in particular. Of course the train photos fit well into the antique, analogue times esthetic. I can spend hours scrolling through photos in the Flickr forum I Shoot Film. Looks like you've done a good job with developing and scanning. Last photo of the train has very good exposure in the shadows. I get those lines sometimes in the sky in my film photos. I think they are developing artifacts from the spiral tank. Or chemtrails?

Thanks for the comment MB. I have enjoyed the process so far, now that I am back at work the issue for me will be finding the time to take another couple of rolls of film.

The scanning took a bit of trial and error, as it was the first time I have scanned black and white film.

As to the lines, they are definitely artifacts on the film. I suspect there may be 2 issues at play. I had a "lock up" when loading the film and the photo in question was at the end of the roll, so I think the intermittent marks may be caused by this perhaps??. I am thinking the the fine line may be from the film squeegee?? The first roll I processed I noticed it on a few frames as I didnt wet it well prior to using it. It is called learning the hard way.

Anyway I will keep going with different films and cameras until I settle on a preferred combination.

Thank for your help and assistance both on the public forum and with private messages. It has helped me get started and give me some confidence in what I am doing, and is greatly appreciated.

Definitely has a feel doesn't it!
I find a lot of interest in these sets as well - Fave is the last image of the train - there's a moodiness there that i dig!

Print from your film -(Either with an enlarger or a printer) don't send it to a lab.
That is by far the best way to get into this craft.

Post 1 - Shots 2 & 3 - Ilford FP4 (much neglected) - developed with HC-110. Shot on Canon AE-1 Program

All others were Tri-X 400 - also developed with HC-110. Shot with a great little point and shoot camera I have - Pentax Espio 928
