Wow ... you pulled that out as a surprize Raiven. The lighting, composition, exposure ... all just perfect.
That's, with out doubt in my mind, the best concept shot I've seen here at ph.ca and easily the most classy. You may have found your calling!
Hey Marko ... I'm calling this one GREAT and I don't care what you think http://www.mtbdirt.com.au/home/smf/Smileys/classic/nahnah.gif

Very nice again. Not quite as good as the first one (would have liked to see some of the vase as well) but still a very, very good photo!

Lol, Aussie I could not show the actual vase because the flowers were taped in place to it.

You didn't think to just stuff some tissue down the neck to push them where you wanted?
I like it anyway. A lot.

Actually I like the second one most. I like how the flowers just come out of the blackness. That said, its a close race with the first.
Either way, it looks like you had a very productive session Raiven.

The lighting in the last one doesn't quite work for me. :)

Yeah, it seem a bit under. Lol, my methods are primitive so its- take a shot check for clipping try again- type thing. What I was trying for is the flowers lit up and the stems outlined but not completely lit. Trial and error. I will try again tonight if the flowers are still good. My kitchen is kind of a giant light box for this whole procedure.

Ok, I think I have it now. I wish I had a porcelain vase for this but had to use glass.

Yep, that's looking very nice. As you say ... shame it's not a real vase. Maybe show less of the glass?

Raiven, these are some great images. I skipped the middle page of this thread but am just now getting to see what I missed. WOW! Im glad your image was nominated, it really deserves this. Im wondering now, what is it that your doing for these shots as far as lighting wise? How long have you been practicing this? It is a great job. There is definitely a story or something that inspired these creations. Please share.
PS - I like the glass myself

Thanks, jj. I have a black and white of tulips in my kitchen that is similar. I do not know who the photographer was but I always liked it. I wanted to try it but did not know exactly how without studio lighting. I am guessing they used a studio light with a snood. I got the effect by using my sb600 with a paper bag wrapped around it to get the directional effect. I turned off the lights and used a black background and held the flash (attached to a cord) at 90 degrees to the camera. The cord is not that long so I had to set my fstop and shutter speed fairly high. It's a lot of trial and error, basically. :)
