Rocks & Faucet

Hello everyone,

It would be amazing if you guys could give me some feedback on these two shots I have. I'm a hobbyist and still learning the technicalities.

I picked this image because I like the texture and contrast. I also like the organic leaves peeking through the solid rocks. Though they're not as obvious as I would have liked, maybe some tips on capturing the little details?

I also want to get your opinion on this next image, I really like the highlights and the texture of the wall as well.

Welcome to the obsession that we call 'photography'. It looks like you've got a good eye for the interesting shot, but there are a few concerns with these images. #1 is a nice capture; (are these film or digital captures?) which would benefit form a slight levels/curves adjustment to reduce the highlights in some areas. I would have considered a slightly different angle which would have excluded the carpet from the foreground and perhaps filled the frame with 3-4 of the rocks. In #2, it's rather over-exposed and has too many distracting details for my taste. Again, I think a closer crop which would have eliminated the confusion of the OOF hose in the background would have helped. You could have used the lines between the bricks to brink the eye to the spigot making it the main subject. Overall, a nice effort, looking forward to more.

Sorry, I have to disagree with you entirely.

The exposure is great -- the highlights are tiny and contain no details, so blowing them out is fine. The rest of the exposure is good, the dark blacks still have some detail.

The out-of-focus section of hose is great -- it make the shot more interesting and fills the left side with a subtle background.

yeah i'd have to agree i totally dig the high contrast. thick blacks and sharp highlights. def reminds me of my freshman black and white years! i mean the brick looks fantastic. i mean, yeah. the blacks are too black and the whites are too white.... buuuuuuuut..... i mean...... w/e i'm down. i hope we're not expecting you to use the zone system orsomething.

and however the first image is a little boring... but still a good 'print'.
