Okay, I don't know how well this thread is going to work here, but it works VERY well on another (non photography) forum I used to go on. You post pretty much anything you want in here and this way it reduces some future clutter in the OT forum...

I'll start.

I'm so screwed for exams. I stayed up late last night studying, and ended up falling asleep for 2-3 hours while studying. Then I procrastinated and did nothing.

I hate exams.

I recall back to my early university days, i did the same thing except I drank too much coffee and took too many caffeine pills and I was so juiced that studying was impossible. I'm SO happy the only tests I take now are tests of courage :clown:

Ugh, I hate coffee (scarring childhood experience, ha), and I don't drink tea either. Lol, so I have half a glass of pop to keep me awake O_O Almost never works. I probably need to do the whole "face my fears" thing and start drinking coffee (:yuck:)

If it makes you feel any better, because of my addiction to the tv show "House" I was up late and my youngest had me up at 6am!!! Ack..what is that! Now I got a grumpy kid and a long day ahead of me.. ha ha.

I used to like House a lot more.
The show has changed for the worse IMO.
WAY WAY too much time being spent on the relationships in the show. Never used to be like that.

My "courage" sentiment was a bit corny it's true; but not nearly as corny as this season of House :yuck:

Ha ha! Yay..you are right marko..it has changed! I find most shows have! There are only a few now days that I watch faithfully, one being Heroes. That is my favorite.

Although I will be watching American Idol tonight, not intently but waiting to see how Adam does. Man, I need a life.

I agree about the relationship aspect of House. I was rewatching the first season last summer and it was HI-LAR-I-OUS. What happened, House? What happened?

Oooh, is the Mentalist good, raiven? I thought about watching but I've got enough shows on my plate as it is.

Another one of my faves is How I Met Your Mother. I *love* Neil Patrick Harris (Barney!); he makes the show, imo.

Mentalist is decent - the main character Simon baker is good but his American accent is SO fake. (He's an Aussie)

Anthony Lapaglia from Without a Trace is another actor that has NOT mastered the American accent. (Another Aussie)

Back to House - THERE'S an actor (Hugh Laurie) who has ABSOLUTELY mastered an American accent. (He's a Brit)

I haven't seen the first two shows, so I can't comment, but Hugh Laurie absolutely *shocked* me when I found out he was a Brit! I would have NEVER guessed if I hadn't stumbled across a TV interview of him!

I just started Anatomy and Physiology as a pre-req for a course I'm starting September (Occupational Therapist Assistant). I'm starting a whole new career and getting out of cooking eventually. Mannnnn... Holy terminology!!! I'm only 3 weeks into it but sheesh the tests are gonna suck as I'm trying to deal with the memory of a 40 something year old and tons and tons of terminology of cell structure, tissue types, organic chemistry, organelles, etc,etc,etc....:wall-an:!

Btw, we are religious "The Office" watchers...most hilarious show on TV...IMO. Mike likes "The Mentalist" and "Dexter"....and we both like "Criminal Minds". I tend to follow reality type shows like "Top Chef" and "Amazing Race"
Oh yeah and we both also like watching UFC/Ultimate Fighter which is something I never pictured myself liking but surprisingly do! :)

Yeh ... get up later and run to work. That way you still get your exercise and get to sleep in instead of being up at the time I'm up almost every day :headslap:

Every time I walk down the stairs, all I can think is "if i slip and fall, i'm sure head injuries can get me out of these exams." :headslap:LOL, yes, I'm that desperate.

I can honestly say I studied for maybe a handful of exams. Never consistently recieved high marks, but never failed out of high school or college. After a few years or experimentation, if you participate in class and maintain a good relationship with your instructor, exam grades do not count for much. Even missing class from time to time is allowed. However, you must make a legitimate effort to understand and like the material. A teachers job is make sure you do just that. There are a great number of ways to evaluate a student and exams are not always the best way to do this, and instructors know that. If you are making a good effort, you have nothing to worry about. I never worried about grades, just about passing. haha, maybe thats the wrong way to go about it, but it worked.

Here is my formula..haha

If you show up to class, show up early
If you are going to be late for class, just skip it(do not interrupt)
Do as much homework as possible(if you struggle, skip it)
If you skip homework, casually ask him a question or two before class(why you show up early)
Take good notes
Never fall asleep in class(negates all other efforts)
If a study sheet is not handed out, probe the instructor for exam material(not EVERYTHING will be on an exam)
Occasionally make a joke(lighten things up) - this works really well
- DO NOT be a class clown
Let the instructor know you are concerned about the class
- after class or in an email
ALWAYS thank the instructor for their help and explanations

This is just what I did. DO NOT take any of this seriously. It's what worked for me but may not work for you. I have never done well reading. I can read, and can read well. I am a visual learner, which is why I am in photography. Having literally never read a book in college, this seemed to have paid off. Each person has their own way of learning, and I can do it just by listening to what the instructor has to say. Comprehension is the most important part of all class, and the book is just another way of explaining the ideas and concepts. If you can listen and take good notes, the book is irrelevant sometimes.
Secondly, I jump and then think about why I jumped. After several jumps, you learn how to do it. This train of thought has its pros and cons.
Cons - you will rarely get good grades

Pros - you build great relationships with your instructors
- you learn in a fashion that fits you best
- you rarely get bad grades
- you get to enjoy college

I admit I was not a straight A student. However, I did graduate high school and college. College took 5 years, but that is still faster than what most people I know have been taking. So...

I've been there MM...for the last 15+ years I've been at work at 6-6:30am - up at 4 or 5am and during Christmas season I started at 5Am. HaHa! I just got back to working this week again after a 6 month hiatus and doing night school 2 times a week and Holy...I am burned out today!
It's like going 0 to 100 without any acceleration....but it does feel good to be doing something again I have to say! It's nice to be tired from working and not from boredom.
Btw, next weekend I'm starting work at 6:30AM again.

And here I sit ... slowly getting sleepy again .... hoping it will come soon so I can snooze until 4am when I'm getting up again to drive 2 hours to take a photo of a waterfall and then drive 2 hours home again :headslap: It's a cool waterfall if it's running well though. ;)

Yah..hence the hesitation. Nah..the housing up here is old, the house reminds me of my grandparents when I would visit them in Newfoundland. Lots of work to be done, but it's the right price. Soo..we'll see.

Heights scare me big time...height and snakes are my 2 biggest fears. I get vertigo if I'm on the edge of something looking down! I have trouble walking though long grass because I just know I'll see a snake. Pet snakes are okay, but the ones slithering on the ground freak the daylights out of me!!!!
I saw a snake nest with hundreds of the things slithering around in a huge pile once when I was little and since then I just can't handle the thought of them! :eek:

JJ, befriending the prof is a good idea. I find it hard though when it's a class of 300-400 kids. I'm "friends" with me English Prof (she says she finds my antics very entertaining, lol) but chem and bio? Nope. =(

Always avoided the classes with any more than 300(Chem and Bio were 300+ size classes as well). Once I realized how hard it was to get any kind of feedback or conversation with the instructor, they were never above 50. Im not one to listen to mic'd up lecture either.

My Profs this semester are pretty good about feedback and stuff. My chem one even posts on the discussion forum for his course to answer questions and help us out (he was on until 12 30am last night answering things!). But it's hard getting to know them on a one-to-one basis. The only small class I have is English with 40 students, and that's the Prof I befriended :)

You'll love Takkakaw Falls go early in the season to see them spray way out, if your into a good hike continue up the valley to Twin Falls just wonderful. Camped up there once and watched the sunrise sitting beside the falls.

...today we are getting ready to go for a drive, and Mike has been outta gas in the car for...ummm...oh I dunno, a few days now....and he decides that rather than to go and get gas first, we should take the dog to the dog park first where then he tells me that....oh by the way, "I am so low on gas, we might not make it to the gas station" I say "Well, why didn't we go there first?" to which he reasoned that it was not "on the way"! :wall-an:
I spent the last few miles worrying about whether or not we'd be walking the dog back to the house!

Rant #2... Coming home after an awesome find of cool birds several yards away and seeing not sharp pictures (which looked sharp on the teeny tiny screen on the camera) is like opening a Christmas present from your hubby/BF/significant other only to find he got you a mop! :mad:

I had a big crash on my Mountain Bike this morning. My bike is OK, the same can not be said for me. I suspect I might have a fractured rib and more than a few scratches. I was able to ride 15k home afterwards, so I guess I'll live.

Landed on my tailbone and hit my right arm which was painful enough but to add insult to injury I slipped down a further step and landed on it again. I have a huge bruise on my right forearm no comment on the other.

I have to admit mine is self inflicted. I train hard and ride hard..and today was too hard.

Worst self inflicted cycling last year was when I was pushing hard leaving a stop when I discovered my right shoe didn't clip in properly. With full downward thrust my foot made contact with the road effectively coming to a full stop. The chain wheel came in contact with my calf, now my left foot was in the power stroke position. Chain wheels are sharp so it had no problem finding good purchase in my tender flesh. This help it climb up my calf tooth by tooth. now essentially my bike was supported in the air by my leg. Gravity and momentum now worked together to help force my front wheel back down unfortunately due to a distraction occurring I had inadvertently turned my front wheel enough for it to cause a pull to the right so when it bounced I corrected for this but to an extent that was rather adverse since it now came in contact with the ground at a greater angle. Two more bounces like this each with a greater oscillation was too much effort for the front wheel so it decided forward motion was out of the question. Inertial came to my rescue and restored the balance to the physics problem this had created by allowing my body to continue over the handle bars. At this time my body proved that it could stop my forward motion by the use of friction on the pavement. I am happy to say the bike and the road were not damaged during this event.

Gosh...the Flames actually played pretty good last night!
I still say Chicago in 5 though!

I was in Grade 8, riding my bike home and was being chased by some kids on their bikes. We lived at the bottom of this big hill one street over so I decided to get away from them I would pedal in 10th gear down the hill as fast as I could. at the bottom of the hill I had to make a 90% turn to make the corner but I missed the road and ended up riding in the ditch. In the middle of the ditch was a stone bridge type walkway across the ditch so I slammed into that head-on at full speed, instantly stopping the bike. I remember being catapulted over the handlebars, flying in mid-air, seeing the walkway below as I'm shooting over it and landing well on the other side of the ditch on my left shoulder (which I ended up dislocating). The bike was now turned into a side by side 2-wheeled unicycle to which I quietly got up, and pushed home. When I got home I remember sitting on the basement step and just losing it! My Mum thought I had been molested or something because I was so distraught and couldn't talk. I was more worried about getting in trouble for breaking my bike!

Btw,I got a round of applause from the 2 boys chasing me who were suitably impressed and said they had never seen anyone fly like that!
My Dad also managed to straighten and fix the bike too!

Well, I'm gonna add to the list of injuries this week (btw-hope everone is recovering well). My wrist is bruised and sore. I can move the thing up and down but not left to right. To add insult to injury, I don't even know how I hurt myself.... :p

Either way this gal is sucking it up and still doing my weight training! Unless I'm dragged to the doctor by my husband who is threatening me if I don't stop complaining.. ha ha..where is the joy in not bugging him ;)

Sounds like your enjoying your final day Gem. Exams are always a pain when your waiting to take them. After youre finished, it almost seems like theyre fun.

On a side not, I went to the billiard hall to play with a friend. They had a punching bag there that tells how hard to you punch. For 50 cents you can punch it so I tried three times. On the third time, I set the record on the machine. I even won 2 of 3 pool games as well.

After you graduate and enter into the real world, you realize how much fun it is to actually learn, in a formalized setting. I would be a lifetime student if it paid the bills. I could listen to people talk about what they know all day.

Not sure how the weather is at your school up there. The climate here is a little warmer. Our campus is pretty spread out and there is a fairly large commons area. I used a telephoto lens to get people in their daily routine as a student. I ended up deleting most of it since I was fluent with the camera. Its easy to get over the "creeper" stereotype after a minute or two. Using a telephoto lens helps to distance yourself from the subject so they do not realize you are there. Makes the image much more natural as well.

Funny thing is I'm pastry cheffing at a golf course right now with no clubhouse (renovating) so we are working out of a big white barely heated tent and cooking in a teeny Atco trailer...yesterday was opening day!

Yeah...this is a lot better than the Polo Club...notice how when thePL club FINALLY got a clubhouse and kitchen (even then pretty bare bones) they didn't need us anymore? Fine by me....I really disliked going out there as I'm sure you did too.
Remember when too we were out at the Cross ranch? And a certain Sous chef threw out all the leftovers rather than feed the staff?
