I tried something new this evening... I used my 700mm telescope as a lens for my camera through afocal coupling. The two photos of the moon were taken using a 25mm eye piece. My camera lens was at 55mm, focused to infinity.

This photo is of Saturn, which was trailing the moon by about 40 arc-minutes. This was taken using the same setup, but I added a 2x Barlow to the telescope to make the rings visible.

Very cool! I'd love to do this sort of stuff too. Pics in a book are neat but when you see it through the eye piece it somehow makes it more real.

Thanks guys and gals... The shot of Saturn was so difficult... Out of 15 photos taken, the one posted was the best. The clouds were not playing fair either. There were only breaks of a few seconds to take some of the shots, then nothing for 30 seconds. With the Barlow, it reduces the FOV to about 45 arc seconds, (7 with my 10mm eye piece.)

I don't have a proper mount for the telescope/camera setup. I had both tripods setup, focus the telescope, move the camera into position, adjust, and shoot.

The forcast for tonight is supposed to be clear, I may try for more of Saturn. If I can get the 10mm/Barlow focused, and the camera into position fast enough, I should be able to photograph it with the 4 largest moons visivle too...
