Trying on Orton for size

I was very excited to see the new podcast. For the longest time I wanted to know how to do this but never could. First go at a photo that really didn't do much for me but thought would be good for this technique. I'm soooo excited here. Gonna be a long night tonight!

I didn't even know this had a "proper" name - I've been using a variation of this technique for a long time - in fact, it's one of my function keys, I have a few image treatments as actions set so I can quickly visualize some options on images.

The one I most use is to duplicate the image, desaturate it, gaussian blur it, set layer mode to overlay and reduce the opacity to taste.

Doesn't work for everything, but can be quite nice from time to time when you want some "flavour"...

Love that sunset ... nominated that one. The lake ... ehhh not sure it's an image that needed Orton .... Leaf shot looks great though. Last again ... ok but ehhh.

Thanks for the vote! Ha ha..yah. I couldn't believe the sunset I got..second day I got here. Loved them ever since :) This Orton can sure bring sa change to a photo!! Sometimes I'll really like then other times I'm not to sure..I have a hard time loosing such sharpness but gaining those colors!!

Like me and HDR Merge at the moment (and my Wide Angle lens), I'm sure you'll go overboard with it all until you loose the novelty a bit and learn what images are better suited to it or not. Good way to learn.

Where are you moving to? Bigger town?
