After about an hour and a half, I lost patience with them. This is the best I could do with the little buggers.

o.O That's kinda creepy, lol. But, poor little ant =( What's the red liquid-y thing?

You spent an hour and a half getting ants to standing uniformly around a dollop of something sweet?

Weird ... but it's a cool shot.

Well…not entirely. Some of that time was set-up and I was doing other things as well while the tupelo honey drew a crowd. I really need another macro for wildlife and insects. In manual focus mode, each time I knelt to make an adjustment, the ants would scatter and then another 5 or 10 minutes later I would try again.

It ain't easy to get 45 ants to say "cheese" with a D90 and a 60mm lens hovering less than 6 inches above them. I haven’t given up, though. I will nail it on the next attempt.

I think it's very cool. I can't believe you spent an hour and half doing that but I like the result. Having one of them off to himself makes it more interesting to me.

I CAN believe that you took the time and good on you for doing it! :highfive:

I like this shot! What's the pink surface?

The pink surface is actually nothing more than construction paper. The monthly challenge on the club site is monochromatic. I have another version where I’ve removed both the glaring reflection on the drop of honey and the green cast of the reflection on the ants giving me several different shades of red. At least, I hope it has. My eyes and monitor may be playing tricks on me again.

Anyway, I have a couple weeks to get it right. I’m glad you guys like it even though it’s obvious that improvement can be made.

Came pretty darn close to getting the eyes to "sing" in this one. ;)

Nice capture, Barefoot! If you are going monotone you are certainly awfully close! Very sharp too.

Thanks, Iggy. I learned a few thing on the first one, so the set-up was smoother the second time around. The speedlight and a device I fashioned for macro work helped, too.

How interesting BF! Love both these shots and btw, you have a heck of a lot more patience than I do!
Also, i thought the first one looked like skin...it has the same tone. If it was I'd have to say you have even more patience than Jobe!
