you can still tell this picture is computer animated, but it does have a great amount of depth to it. It looks very 3D. The scene itself looks really cool.

Correct me, if your view is different, but I think that the land probably looks more computer-generated than anything else. Interesting that you say it looks very 3D since I modelled it in a 3D graphics program creating the land with polygons and then adding the surface texture.

Thanks for your views.

Yes the land is the main part that looks generated. The water looks great, and the clouds look good except where the bright blue and whispy clouds meet. I don't know what it is but the transition isn't extremely smooth. For the land I think there isn't enough color variation in it it looks like maybe 4 colors. The lands pattern repeats in some area's so it doesn't look natural. If you tweak that a little the picture should turn out great.

Good luck!!:)

I very much like this shot tegan!

Question - what is your intent? Is the intent to make it look like a 'real' photograph? Or are you just experimenting with graphics programs with the intent that end result be a mixed media image?

Without a computer with a considerable amount of processing power and a very sophisticated and very expensive software program, I do not think it will be possible to produce a totally "real" looking photo but it is possible to get into the "possibly real" territory. That is part of my intent.

The other part is to produce the mixed media where part is photographed with a digital camera and part is created and photographed with a virtual camera. That would certainly and considerable broaden the concept of artistic control of a photographic/digital image.

Beginning a new genre of photography is always experimental at first. But virtual pictures can look almost real, but they have a different mood to them. If you want an exellent example of virtual art the video game Myst is a great example.

I have heard of Myst by reputation. I will try and get a look at it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Out of curiosity what program are you using? The only 3D programs I've heard of are Autocad and 3D Max.
