I'm so digging this D700, This was shot at ISO 6400 using a single small fluorescent lamp (Little Ikea job) With my E-3 It would have been flash country. As an aside, I just love this little guy, as well as being one of my favorite models, he's just such a joy to hang with :)

PS....Really lovely print also on my Pixma 6700 Canon

In the days of film, I might have agreed with those that believed a camera is just a box with a hole that lets in light and that the money is best spent on glass since one box would have suited your needs as well as the next. The D700, as well as the D3, has put that argument to rest. Trust me on this. You’ve only begun to scratch the surface of what that “box” is capable of.

Conner is a fine looking little chap, by the way.

Great capture! When I upgraded to the D300 from the D60, I was amazed at the difference. I think it was on Ken Rockwell's site that I read that the camera (he was talking about the D300) made your cheap lenses (in this case my cheap lenses) seem
so much better and I am inclined to believe it is true. Not to disparage the D60 at all but if some were to ask if the D300 was worth 3 X the price then I would say yes, absolutely and I am sure you would say the same for the D700.

Thanks...It's going to be a while until I get fluid with the camera as It's a complex machine but having owned it no for about thirty hours I'm starting to see the logic :D This was a shot where Connor came and visited me and I did the manual thing I do with the E-3 but went for high ISO and knowing so little about the camera I was totally taken with the result. The more I get to know the "box" the more possibilities I see!

It was twice what I paid for the E-3 and I have at this point zero regrets about taking the leap. Not to say the E-3 isn't a great camera, it is, but this camera is just so much more :)

Thanks Casil...If I get it right, it's always a nice image with Connor because as Barefoot said he really is a fine looking chap!

COOL - so you bought the D700! :highfive: I'm considering a similar purchase in a few months.

I like this moody shot of Conner.

I was actually getting ready to slap the puppy on my Card. But I also want video capability as I think it will be useful as a podcast tool. I have heard rumours that the next version of this camera might be (with this feature) out in a few months though it will surely be more expensive..."oh well I'll just sell another pint of me blood". I'm itching for full frame otherwise I would have already bought the D300s.

Congrats again!

as an aside...I stand by the camera is a box statement though in the context that ya gotta know what you are doing (like not putting a kit lens on a 3 grand camera). Once you know what you are doing, oh what a sweet box it is. Until you know what you are doing buy a cheap camera, and then get that sweet box in a couple of years. :twocents:

Guess I could return it and dig out my old E-510 for a while :)
