Well the photoshoot with the womens' roller derby was cancelled. Its ok though, I got few good pictures while scoping the old bus graveyard. I still might get a chance to get in there to get some pictures of the buses themselves. With some old vintage buses from the 70's and 80's its a guaranteed success.

I like both shots and especially #2 with the old Gm and foggy glass!
Looks like Orton here as well?

I try not to critique when the shot is not in the critique forum, buuut.
Shot 1 would be awesome if you did one thing to it...cut it in half. Crop the person on the left out. Then it's all about the expression of the girl on the right, in her environment....and her expression is awesome. Very nice B/W.
hope that helps - Marko

I would like to use this as a teaching tool on our blog, can I?

The quality of the B&W treatment is impressive JJ!! As is the exposure for an inside shot with windows. Nice.

Marko, anything I post on the forum can be used in any fashion you wish. Its a pleasure to help people learn in any fashion.

Here is a second look at the image with the girl on the left cropped out. I like this version a lot. Cant say I like it better than the other image as I cant really compare the two. But the second does seem to have more impact on the viewer. Thanks for the input. Does that mean the pictures I take arent perfect?

The cropped version looks way over sharpened to me.

I prefer the second crop. I think the first shot would have been better than this crop had the person on the left not been there.... as I love all the windows and exposure is very nice here.

Thanks for the permission JJ! http://www.photography.ca/blog/?p=498

Best! Marko

Hi Guys, first post..Saw the pointer to this thread on the main page of the blog.
I can totally see the crop version if it is all about the expression. I still prefer the original. The environment looks awesome and I like the fact that there are two people in the shot. The first person looks like she is talking to the other or at least expects a response. She also leads the eye to the second person and she is not looking back, but looking away, daydreaming. To me that makes the daydreaming stronger.

Cheers,

Rob/Sydney

Thanks Rob,

You just said what I wanted to say. I just couldnt say it in so few words and didnt want to ramble. I think the story in the original is much better and more telling. The second image is much more focused on her expression. But I do prefer the story in the original.

Either way, I can see both opinions. This is why photography is so great. No two images are the same and no two people will see things the same way.

Cheers!

I think the crop made the photo MUCH more interesting! Nice concept to put a person in an abandoned bus! I like it!:highfive:
