Hi
I was curious about a Buy and Sell section?
What do you think?

If others feel the forum is large enough, I'll add that section.

Opinions?

Thx!

Buy and sell can work, but everything has to be totally above board. I have seen where someone misunderstands something and hard feeling sour the forum. Other forums allow posting of 'now on ebay' announcements since it then takes it to a regulated ecommerce site. So I am on the fence reflecting my non-practicing agnostic decision making.

Maybe have a section where you can put your links to imagekind or other third party sellers?

sounds like a good idea to me. I'm sure that we can all be mature :p

(at least about that).

I'm not so sure it's a good idea...might lead to more spamming and people getting on here just to post ads instead of look and comment on photos.

But hey that's me and my :twocents:
I probably wouldn't use it or go to this section. :)

In the forums I run on my websites the For Sale sections have always created issues. Naming flaming or derailing of someone sale. arguments followed. Over the years I've found the best method was to have the For Sale section closed to comments. A member puts up there item(s) as normal but nobody but them can reply in the thread. This means to respond to an advert in the For Sale section the members have to use whatever method is provided by the author or use the PM's. In this way it avoids a lot of hassles.

Having said that, my 'audience' to my websites is probably very different to the people attracted to this site. I'm sure we'd see a lot more maturity here than I have to deal with on my sites. There's also less members here at present so that's probably a factor also.

What we do have is people registering only to sell something to be never heard from again. We thought about making them have x amount of posts first etc but really what's the point? They'd only get in and make useless comments to fill their quota and qualify to sell anyhow.

In the end, the For Sale sections (I call them Trading Posts with For Sale and Wanted to Buy sections within) to be very important features on my sites.

I like Greg's idea.

I think (hope) that would discourage a potential spammer. Plus if they are posting stupid posts JUST to raise the postcount, as Admin, I can delete these types of spammers.

We could ALSO make it so the member has to be a member for X number of days.

At the end of the day - if this is a service to the members of this forum, I'm all for it, so long as we can plan for potential abuses.

Opinions on this?

many thanks!

Marko,

This sounds good, if it is easy to implement and doesn't require too much work on your part. I can't see too much going on in this area but you never know.

I like the idea of buy/sell, for sure. On the many other forums that I frequent, I find things like a minimum post and the no-comments, just PM work good.

well, we will have to be careful. I think MA will be the first one trying to sell something, and Im sure it will not be any photography equipment, rather himself......

I'm liking this idea....I think I'll set it up tomorrow.

I know JJJ has some gear he wants to show, and i see no reason why he can't show it in our community.

I'll set the post count high so only "regular members" can post a thread, but anyone can reply for more info.

If there are any other comments or warnings about things that can go wrong....now's the time.

many thx!

Hi members,

Sorry for the delay on this....I did half the work - I only need 15 more min...

Had to concentrate on the podcast today (now live :) ), but should be done just as soon as I have a spare moment.

Thx all!

This forum is now live. It is located at the bottom of the forum's main page (http://www.photography.ca/Forums)

You need 75 posts to start a thread but members with less than that can reply to those threads.

Let's see how this works out.

Thx!

Hi members,

The Buy sell forum is a bit premature at this point...so I'm deleting the forum, but can reinstate it easily at any time.

Thx!
