Hey I know you didn't ask for critique here but I thought I might mention something about HDR if you don't mind too much.

Of course objecting will be too late so tough! :p

I assume you've taken this with the usual method of Auto Exposure Bracketing (3 shots) with the camera in Aperture Priority mode?

The end result here is the sky has blown out and sometimes that sort of thing happens even with the 3 exposures. Sometimes it's simply because I didn't go wide enough on my bracketing ... I may have gone 1 stop instead of 2 stops perhaps. But sometimes even that doesn't get it.

What I do if I think this has happened is, before I move the camera and tripod, is check the 3 shots in the LCD and if I think I'm missing a shot that's needed I go to full manual. In this case I would have seen that none of the shots were dark enough to have the sky looking right so I'd choose a setting gave me that ... and I'd still Auto Bracket and get another 3 shots. In this way I'll have at least 6 shots at varying exposures to choose from ad should be able to get detail everywhere.

Most of us don't get 9 bracketed shots as option :headslap: WE have to work for our better shots rather than letting the camera do ALL the work ;)

This was a handheld shot I stumbled across on the way to the Doctor. Brought the camera with me to get a new lens cap and new hood at the Camera Store for the one I lost at the bottom of the Bow River weir a few weeks back.

The sun was right behind the building so I think that might have also contributed to the blown out sky. I tried several different bracketed angles (I only get 3 at a time on my camera) and this worked the best to get a good shot of the statue and the building relfection but I lost the sky as a result of the sun. I think I might take the tripod out again when I am able to walk more and have another go...Nice that statues don't go anywhere!

Yeah, didn't you see the George Castanza/shrinkage episode of Seinfeld? And Lisa, next time you lose some minor accessories I have one word for you.....wait for it....eBay. Many of these little plastic doodad items are indistinguishable from OEM, and delivered to your door for a few bucks. I'm guessing that the camera store charges, what, $15+ just for a cap? Another $20 for a hood?
