So hard to get Kingfishers in a shot. They are fast and never let me get near at all.

Here's a Sacred Kingfisher ...

And the good old Kookaburra ... king of the kingfisher family...

Kookaburra's are characters. And their laugh is infectious.

I keep forgetting to add this in I got yesterday morning ... heavilly cropped so not great quality ...

If they are a regular visitors to picnic areas then sometimes you can hand feed them bits of meat.

Gosh, our belted kingfishers are so the opposite of that!
I've never gotten a good shot of one yet because everytime I get even remotely close...off to the other side of the pond/river it goes.
Why 3 pairs of shoes MAW? Same reason?

Kingfishers are the same here Casil. I'm using 400mm to get those shots that are barely acceptable.

The Kookaburras can be the same but around picnic areas can be far more tame. Being much larger (they are about the size of a seagull) they are easier to shoot as well.

Very cool shots MA. I just read an excellent article in National Geographic about Kingfishers. They talked a bit about how quick and hard to photograph they are. Some of those shots in the magazine were really incredible.

Thnaks. I didn't see that one Jason but I can imagine. Mind you, if youy paid me to camp out next to a known Kingfisher haunt and get good shots I'm sure I'd do better. Can only dream of taking some thing as good as those NAT G people though!
