Hello nomad ... nice to see you back again!

Well ... if high key and retro was the look you were going for then well done indeed! Even the pose and polka dot outfit is old style.

I agree that it's definitely retro. I like the treatment and it seems to suit the subject.

to be nitpicky: I would recommend getting rid of the straps in the back, I find them distracting and don't add to the image. the circles under her eyes are a bit dark as well.

Its a wonderful portrait. I like the spotlight effect and hight contrast. I like the pose and the smile. Ths strap hanging down that you can see between the arm and the torso is a minor distraction.

it might explain a lot, huh?

my grandparents moved there from England many many years ago. My uncle followed when he retired. He lives in Mt. Tambourine (I think that's it, does that sound right? ). He married an Aussie woman (3rd wife) and loves it there. I will definitely get there sometime in the next 10 years. it's part of the plan. and I'm good with plans

Mt Tamborine ... yep ... know it well ... conceived a child up there while camping about 22 years ago. I kid you not ;)
It's a really nice spot actually ... rugged and over looks the Gold Coast. Awesome for the bird life too! Bring the long lens!

Oh yes, the photo! :) I was just wondering how we got from a retro looking photo to making babies on a mountain in Australia with Bambi's uncle, a long lens and a tambourine? :-D

Thanks everyone! :-)

As far as critique goes, in addition to the already mentioned straps, I'm not fond of the little bit of cropped elbow. In general, it's not bad to crop limbs if it's done so as to appear intentional. In this case however (whether intentional or not) it looks like poor composition/cropping. Overall however, I think it's a nice image which certainly achieves the desired aim.

The coloring is retro allright but it seems that you lost some shades
