Being Canadian I was surprised to learn my great great grandfather was a Major in the American Civil War. He served in the 2nd Division, South Carolina Militia, Confederate Army. He owned two plantations. One on the Ashley River and one on Plum Island. If anyone has more knowledge of my relative we would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks

Learning about your heritage is nice. My grandfather was a double spy during WWII for between the Germans and the Dutch. Many stories have been lost with his departure and for good reason. Most people do not need to know of his experiences. He was one of the best people you would ever get to know.

I did try a quick search, not sure if any of this is him, but the dates would seem to correspond.

Our American Civil War lasted from 1861-1865, he would have been a young lad at the time of the mutiny mentioned above, but if he were a Major during the time of war, it would make him around 30-40 years old. The time line does seem to fit pretty well. I would be really interested to know if the two men are the same. Good luck with your research.

Thank you Mad, Marko and jjeling. Sorry I did not reply sooner but I did not have notification turned on and forgot all about this posting! jjeling as far as I can tell the Cromwell you researched is not related. I am sending this info to a relative in the USA to get her opinion. I will get back to you when I receive an answer. Thanks to you all againfor your nice comments - jimmy :)
